Bricked KE when changing Root feature set? SOLVED

Read further if interested, but I solved my PC connection to the touch screen problem that was prohibiting me from re-imaging it back to stock and therefore unbrick it…the solution was finding out that text in the unbrick info used the term USB-C instead of meaning USB-microC connection. There is both “under the hood” of the touch screen and a video I found online showed the correct connection point and I grabbed a data USB-microC cable and re-followed the instructions and my KE is back to stock.

Help/advice needed. KE worked great except their app and video in Creality Print was becoming unusable so I Rooted and used Fluidd/Mainsail and even installed Guppy screen but changed back without issue and worked great until today when I reinstalled Guppy screen.

FIrst the Creality Logo would not go away on the touch screen but after a restart and waiting for a couple minutes the printer booted up with the Guppy screen working.

However I decided I needed to wait until I got an extension cable delivered and print a rotated screen adapter block so I went back in to Putty Menu and Removed Guppy. I reinstalled a couple other settings (that worked previously) and this is when all hell broke loose.

First off, the printer would not complete a restart to the normal screen. Then I tried to connect via Putty helper load screen and my PC couldn’t find the printer.

I figured it bricked itself so I followed the unBrick instructions and downloaded the files, but I can’t even get past Windows 10 showing "Unknown USB Device - device descriptor request failed).

I did try to make sure Cloner Win32 Driver was installed (only way was to click on usb_cloner_device_inf) but Windows 10 refuses to acknowledge that an authorized device is attached. I even went so far as to edit the Windows settings to ignore device signing and reboot the PC, to no avail.

I simply cannot get Windows to connect to the Touch Screen headunit and therefor cannot unbrick it. FIgures that POS Windows is going to screw me over unless somebody has an idea???

Thanks for input.

Hello notafananymore,

I am sorry but I don’t have a suggestion for you (you have done more than I would have so far) but,

As a suggestion for when you do get it back working ok again …

Get/download the free version of AOMEI Backupper.
Make an image of your main drive “C:” to a different drive “external one maybe”.
Then, if you come unstuck with something regarding windows, you can simply restore it back again to when it was known working.

The whole process is not too long to make an image. Restoring that image can take 15 minutes or so .

I have found it extremely useful as I install various things and sometimes windows might throw a hissy fit and become unstable after uninstalling the culprit .

As I can get a bit pedantic about things. I wiped the system and reinstalled windows. Set it up with all the things I generally use on a daily basis … then made a backup “Fresh 041123”
I then installed other known ok programs and made another backup.“Second 051123”

If I get a problem happen with anything I do to windows and cant un do it, I just restore it back to Second 051123.

Sorry for the rave.

I was about to go the long route and your suggestions…but I just updated my post because I found a video of somebody doing it and it is not a USB-c but a microC instead and that connects to a different spot and Windows didn’t have problem and it unbricked. I just rooted it again but without Guppy screen.

Hello notafananymore,

Glad to hear you have it sorted.

Cheers.
