Can't get nylon to print

Model starts printing fine, but part way in print head stops extruding. there is usually a jam in the extruder when this happens. I have tried temperatures of 260, 270 and 280C thinking the nylon is not melted enough to flow. That did nothing.

Lower printspeed…

Welcome to the community.

I print a fair amount of nylon, it can still be a tricky filament to dial in, but nozzle clogs have not been one of the problems I have run into on either my K2 Plus or my Bambu P1P.

A couple of questions:

  1. How are you feeding the filament?
  • Through the CFS or from an external spool?
  • Have you tried bypassing the CFS and feeding directly from an external spool to rule out feed drag?
  1. What exact filament are you using?
  • Brand and type?
  • Straight PA, Easy PA / PA6/66, PA6-CF, PA6-GF, or something else?
  1. How was the filament dried?
  • Nylon is moisture-sensitive, even the easier-print blends.
  • Was it dried before printing, and are you printing from a dry box or sealed container?
  1. Did you manually calibrate the filament or are you relying on presets?
  • What nozzle temperature, speed, max volumetric flow, and retraction settings are you using?
  1. Are you monitoring chamber temperature?
  • If so, what chamber temperature are you seeing when the clog occurs?
  • A high chamber temperature can sometimes contribute to heat creep, which can look like a nozzle clog but is actually a plug forming above the melt zone.
  1. When it fails, what exactly happens?
  • Extruder clicking?
  • Filament ground down by the gears?
  • Partial extrusion that gets worse over time?
  • No extrusion at all?
  • Can you manually extrude after heating the nozzle?

That should help separate a true nozzle clog from wet filament, feed resistance, heat creep, or a slicer/profile issue.

I have done lots of printing with PAHT-CF using a .8 nozzle. Not had a problem of a blocked nozzle. I am using a DXC2. The only problem I have had is that there were lots of very small bits in the drive cog which stopped it feeding. I cleaned it and all has been fine again. But I am doing so much printing I will take it off and clean it again soon.
