My Pinter is about 18 months old. Suddenly, I makes a nasty grinding noise when a print is started. Then the x and y axes work normally but the z vibrates as it descends to level the bed.
The vertical screws turn smoothly when the z stepper motor is disconnected. I have checked the belt tensions. I have replaced the stepper motor and checked all the cables. I have listened the union between the stepper motor and the vertical screw to allow the motor to turn without moving the screw. I have checked that the level sensor detection pin operates. I sometimes get error ‘2194 unknown exception’. I have not tried replacing the level sensor .
If I connect the x axis cable to the z axis motor it operates without the vibration. I conclude from all this that the motor is okay and the cables are okay but there is an error or mechanical fault elsewhere. Maybe the stepper driver.
This error occured between prints. One day it worked, the next day it didn’t. My wife suggests I should replace the entire printer.
I’d be really grateful for any advice anyone can offer.
