First Print Issues

Hi there,

I have just printed my very first item on the V3 SE and am very impressed with the general finish. However, there are a few issues that I would like advice on:

  1. During the print, part of the base started to lift off the hot plate such that the resulting edge was printed parallel to the ‘new’ angle of the layers beneath. See pics.

What changes can I make at the slicing/prep stage to prevent this?

Also, I probably don’t need the support here, which leaves various marks on the model which are hard to remove.

  1. After the print there is a small residue from the support that seems firmly stuck, and I wondered what I can use to remove it so that the plate is not scratched?

  1. Can I use the 0.16mm layer setting instead of the 0.2mm with the 0.4mm nozzle, and is it even worth it for the extra print time?

Thanks,

Jules

Hi Jules

The lifting on one edge can be solved by printing with a “brim”

The only issue then is removing the “brim” afterwards.

It is usually caused by hotplate temperature variations, quite normal with a SE.

You can try washing the plate thoroughly with dish soap, drying and then giving the plate a wipedown with IPA (that is Isopropyl Alcohol, best is 99.9% PURE.

The residue can be removed by carefully scraping, if you were using PLA, soaking with the IPA may also help.
