If you are of a sensitive disposition, look away now

Graphic images of torture…

… of filament by the K2+ and CFS.

Why are all the extruders set so “hard”? The release lever on the CFS in particular is extremely hard to depress, given that there’s nowhere to oppose the force; there’s no lip or depressions where you can get a grip on it. Plus with a similar lever not 12" away on the other side…once I’ve pressed one with my left hand and one with my right…what exactly am I supposed to use to withdraw the filament?

Hello GreyArea,

I would like to help, but I had to look away.

Cheers.

I’ve literally used my teeth in the situation you described. One hand on the back lever, one hand on the front lever, and use my teeth to pull the filament back enough to no longer need to hold the back lever. What a bad design.

Now I just cut the filament with snips and pull it. Slowly, but with some “I’m a little ticked off” levels of force.

From the looks of your filament, it seems that the rear grabber has a death-grip on it. Does it really need to be that tight? I also have a very hard time pulling filament back through the CFS when it jams up. And it seems to jam up fairly regularly.

A question we’d all like answered. Risk of damage vs risk of slippage I guess - and it’s got a long way to shove that filament from the FFS.

Fnarr, fnarr, oo-er missus,

Sorry, it had to be done.
