K2 Plus First Layer Problems? Here’s the Real Fix (Build Plate + Z-Offset)

When I started printing with my new K2 Plus, the first layer was surprisingly unstable. Even with the exact same settings, the Z height felt inconsistent every time, leading to poor adhesion and over-extrusion.
After some investigation, I found the cause: the textured pattern on the stock build plate created uneven high and low spots. This made the nozzle contact point inconsistent during Z-axis calibration, resulting in Z-height variations.
I replaced the original build plate with the much flatter K2 Plus Epoxy Resin Build Plate, and the improvement was dramatic. First layer consistency and repeatability improved significantly.
I also realized that on the K2 Plus, you must adjust the Z-offset in the slicer settings. In my opinion, most first layer problems with stock filament and default print settings are caused by an incorrect Z-offset. Without adjustment, my first layers were clearly over-extruded. After setting the Z-offset to +0.04 mm, I finally got a perfect first layer.

Advice for new K2 Plus users:
If your first layer isn’t coming out well, don’t waste time tweaking lots of other print settings. Start with these two things first:

  1. Switch to a high-flatness build plate (like the Epoxy Resin one).
  2. Dial in the correct Z-offset.
Doing these two steps made a huge difference for me and will probably solve the majority of first layer issues.
