Sonic Pad not connecting to ender 3 V3 SE

I recently received a refurbished Sonic pad from what appears to be an official refurb store from creality. I was trying to connect it to my ender 3 vs 3e but it seems to not be taking the firmware? I am using the sd card that came with the printer that has been used for other firmware updates. I have printed the USB stabilizers to correct the god awful cable wobble, updated the pads firmware, made sure the card is formatted properly (fat32 with proper allocation size) it flashes the SE firmware to the card fine and have tried connecting to every usb port on the pad. I even tried having the USB-c connected in to the SE’s vestigial port that seems to be for nothing alongside and instead of the serial cable.

every time I try to flash the firmware the old marlin pad just goes to normal operation and doesn’t stick to the creality logo as I have heard is supposed to happen. I am at a loss here and am about ready to return this thing if i cant get it to flash and connect to my printer. I have my printers current configuration here if it helps.

Hello and welcome Colt_Gustafson,

Did you receive the cable for connecting the Sonic pad to the printer ?

My one (New from Creality) came with the cable and instructions and was easy to do.

The V3SE needed to be flashed first and then turned off.

You then disconnect the original pad and plug in the new cable to where the original pad was plugged into.

Connect that cable to the Sonic pad usb and then turn the V3SE back on.

It will then download any later firmware required.

Cheers.

Radical_Data yes it came with all the official cables. Other forums seem to be indicating that the C14 revision boards are not compatible with the sonic or nebula pads yet without custom firmware solutions. So now I am hoping someone makes a custom firmware and guide to making it work i guess unless Creality makes it first

UPDATE: SOLVED, after opening a ticket with Creality support they confirmed the C14 revision boards in the newer printers (IE the ones you see dirt cheep on temu and ali express) are NOT currently compatible with the sonic or nebula pads. they were kind enough to make me a custom klipper firmware for my printer that will interface with the stock profile in the current version of sonic pad and they even sent me, for some reason, a firmware for the nebula pad that will get released soon though I have no way to test it since i have the sonic pad… waiting to see if i can get an updated firmware for the sonic as well to use a dedicated c14 profile but as of now I am printing in klipper!

Did you ever obtain the firmware? If so, could you possibly send it to me? I’ve been trying to connect these machines for a week. So frustrating.

Hi, no I haven’t been looking to be honest. Creality support was useless. I gave up on this printer and bought a centauri carbon instead.
Good luck.

I have been trying to connect my new Sonic Pad to my Ender3 V3 SE printer and finally (maybe) I have reached some actionable instructions.

First of all, the Sonic Pad, when operating, should be attached to the screen’s ribbon cable using the included cable – not a USB-A to USB-C cable. Creality support is not really clear on this.

But then, going thru the Sonic installation steps it always fails. In my case, it never completes the self-test, shutting off in mid-test.

So, customer support then said that I have to reset the Sonic pad to original state by burning new firmware.

Creality has a YouTube video showing this procedure (Creality Sonic Pad System Restore Tutorial Windows) and there is a GitHub page (CrealityOfficial/Creality_Sonic_Pad_Firmware) that lists written tutorials under the docs heading.

The tutorial and video are also somewhat lacking, especially when trying to get the img file to upload with the PhoenixSuite firmware tool (also included in the tools tab of GitHub).

The img files on GitHub lists 9 files z01 to z09 and a zip file. Apparently, you have to download each img file separately and then use the zip file to create the file used by the Phoenix program. Another Youtube video, ā€œProblems with your Creality Sonic Pad???. Try Thisā€ by FireAtWill gives more details on this.

This is where I am at currently.

BTW – The procedure calls for connecting the Sonic Pad to the computer using USB-A cables. I was shocked that with all the USB cables I have collected over the years, I did not have one so I ordered it on Amazon.

Also, if you originally hooked up the Sonic Pad to your network and know the IP address, you can insert this into your browser to see the Sonic Pad screen. There is a link to allow you to export the Sonic Pad log to a USB drive that might help Creality Support diagnose the problems.

@Colt_Gustafson any chance that you can share the custom firmware that they gave you please?
