BLTouch - Too short? Nozzle crashes into bed

Hi all,

Just installed my new BLTouch from the official kit. Tried to "autohome", which resulted into a nozzle crashing into the bed. It looks like the "sensor-stick" (how is that thing called officially?) is too short and does not hit the bed before the nozzle; it does not trigger at all.

There is a "BLTouch-SM" bag in the kit as well which seems like a longer "sensor-stick". Am I supposed to change that in my case? How?

Or should I use something like the below to bring overall the sensor below the nozzle?
