    • RE: How do you update firmware if the SE6 Display shows no files when the SD card is put in?

The 6SE wont tell you anything and creality are very unhelpful.

First turn your machine on and find the information through the menu to display the machine firmware version. Take note of it.

Next with an empty fresh formatted SD extract a firmware zip file into the SD card. Do NOT make a folder just put the contents of the firmware zip file into the root of the SD card.

Put the SD card in and turn on the 6SE. normal turn on the screen displays a progress bar as it boots to the menu. Now it should just take a little longer to do this, its updating the firmware. It wont tell you its updating, the ONLY outward sign is that progress bar takes a little longer to fill and get you to the menu. No success or failure messages either.

Take out the SD card and do NOT put it back in again. Go back into the menu and find the firmware version, it should be different now. Maybe copy the *.bin file to the root of the sd if the above doesnt work. No idea what to do with the screen firmware though, creality dont explain how to install firmwares properly. Each release the zip files seem to have different sets of files and no explanation what they are for.

If the firmware version changed then it was a success and you should now format that sd card so you can use it for objects or something else. They crappy devices china makes work basically the same way for updating firmware: you put the firmware file into the root of the memory card and turn the device on, it’ll check for a firmware file and apply it. They dont remove the firmware file afterwards and some dont go into operating mode until you remove the file yourself, it’ll just keep seeing the file and applying it every turn on if you leave it there. And sometimes the device wont go into firmware update mode if other files are present. You just dont know, they dont bother to You , you are assumed to know what to do.

    • X Axis not moving now :( CR6SE

My printer is the kickstarter CR6SE and has been stable and printing well for months. It’s running V1.0.2 firmware. A couple of days ago I went to print a simple frame object that would fit inside a 10cm cube. Nothing large or complex but it required a raft and supports. Basically a typical design of my own for custom use brackets and should be a straight forward print. Anyway it got about 3mm high of layers printed and without noise or error or print detaching it stopped moving the head left/right along the X axis, just moving the plate forward/back on the Y and raising on the Z axis. So I aborted the print and eventually it appeared to “loop” trying to home the head. It kept repeating its steps and looping through its onscreen display so I powered off. Today I pushed all cable ends to make sure all cables I could reach are seated properly in case it was a lose cable but no change. If i go into the menu I can move the head on Y&Z axis but the X axis produces no movement (yes I set movement rate to 10mm so its very obvious). Auto home just loops Y& Z movement producing no X movement. There are no error messages.
I then updated firmware to V1.0.3.6 and that didn’t make any difference. Nothing changed.

      Any help please?
Is there a self test process that could produce a meaningful error to see if a part needs replacing?

Like I said its been printing reliably for months (since I got it, I forget how long ago). I did not touch the printer while it was running or physically adjust/move anything recently. I only changed the firmware AFTER this problem occurred. I also ONLY use the printer as a standalone, never connected to a computer, i print gcode from sd card and so far only used the creality slicer.

    • RE: Printing bed seems to be not even... (Autolevel fail?)

Mine is the same definitely high on the left of the plate. Nothing wobbles, nothing is lose, nothing suggested helps. And I don't expect it will, autolevel typically only measures height differences at various points then averages them to determine a starting height plane to print to. It does NOT measure the heights then print a few fill layers to build up to a level print plane. in practice this means you can't use the entire build plate effectively or print a lot of objects at once because some part wont stick or will quickly curl up distorting the build or separating entirely. To help good prints there are three options:

      • print rafts to build up to a level print surface take some of the distortion and should stay stuck to the build plate.

      • Print objects one at a time only and either in the center or try where on your plate the autolevel results in the best print result

      • Print small groups of small items together around the center and avoid arranging them in a line across the plate

Lastly don't expect help from Creality, they cheap out on many parts and standard manufacturing processing like quality control. I dont think they have the developer skills to use the autolevel feature to map the plat and build up a flat layer to start building models straight and true. Its a "close enough" ethos unfortunately from a company that doesn't encourage workers to take pride in the quality of their work. Unfortunately its also a marketplace where people expect Rolls Royce quality and features but won't pay anything more than a 2nd hand 80's toyota price. So deal with it.

    • RE: Auto level not working

I found the problem, I carefully opened everything I could to access ALL cables connected by the factory, and NOT the one in the manual that I had to connect myself. After firmly reseating all the factory installed cabling the printer works fine. Well it works, not what I consider in line with the kickstarter but its running for now.

To repeat the problem was the factory installed cables, not a customer problem, either its poor quality control process or the fact you you poor fitting connectors throughout the machine which work lose during shipping. This can cause repeatable or intermittent failures and even present a fire hazard.
From my experience I can not recommend Creality products to anyone. No customer should ever be endangered or be required to fix a product if it was properly manufactured in the first place.

    • Auto level not working

I just got my kickstarter CR-6 SEa few days ago. Got it assembled carefully triple checking cabling connected firm and correct orientation. Likewise checking all screws tighten properly. I'm up to the instruction page on auto levelling. So I go to Level and press the autolevel option, the nozzle temperature starts to rise and gets to 118^C and stays there, I've left it for over 15min and it doesn't change. Pressing the back button on screen only beeps and doesnt change whats on the screen. I have to turn off power and repeat and it does the same thing each time except sometimes it stops at 119^C, sometimes 118^C. No axes move at all and it never reaches 120^C that your instructions claim it should. Should the screen change when I press Back or is it frozen, i dont know since it beeps. If I just go into the Level screen and press Back it beeps and returns me to Home screen as expected.

My machine came with firmware v1.0.2 and I've downloaded the same version firmware (only one currently available) and refflashed with it and there is no change, the printer doesn't reach 120^C and so won't autolevel.

      Ideas?

Question: if I go into the Level screen, press Auto level, then press the back button while the nozzle is still heating up, should it abort and return to previous screen? What should people expect will happen?
