1.6W laser doesn't produce expected results using transparent color

I’m using Creality Print to produce a .gcode file that takes only a png image. This image has transparent areas and those areas are being burned in on my test paper run which I don’t want them to be burned in. Do they need to be area of white instead?

I answered my own question. Empty space must be white.
