I have an Ender 3 S1 Pro and recently purchased a 10w laser kit for this printer. I have seen that the laser kit comes with a “Falcon” module that manages the motors and laser head. My question is if I can use the laser without the Falcon module by connecting the laser head to the “expansion interface” port of the printer because the new printer firmware has a laser control.
I have not used the laser module myself but as a general rule you should always use the control box as it is specifically designed to be used with the laser module and has been configured to do so.
You may have luck connecting to the expansion interface but do be careful not to damage your motherboard.
As in the latest updates Creality has enabled operation with laser mode in the menu and in the documentation specifies that the head must be connected to the expansion module, I think it could work, but the manual does not specify if it would work with all laser powers (1.6W, 5W, 10W) or just a specific one.
For this reason I am hesitant to do the test without knowing that it is possible because if the laser head consumes more current than the motherboard can provide, it could damage it.
I would recommend contacting support via email or live chat for clarification, they should be able to tell you for sure whether its safe and what modules will work.
This is my experience with Creality support. I don’t know if I was talking to a machine or a person writing to many people at once and making many mistakes:
Welcome to Creality!
How can I help you?

Hello. What can I do for you?
Hello. I have an Ender 3 S1 Pro and recently purchased a 10w laser kit for this printer. I have seen that the laser kit comes with a “Falcon” module that manages the motors and laser head. My question is if I can do without the Falcon module by connecting the laser head to the “expansion interface” port of the printer.

I don’t have any fault. I’m just wondering if I can connect the 10w laser head to the “expansion interface” port of the Ender 3 S1 Pro printer

Sorry to hear you had a confusing conversation with the support chat. I would maybe send them an email instead as that way if the person who picks up the email is not sure they can always forward it onto the engineering team for further analysis. From what I have read online the instructions do advise using the control box for the laser rather than the expansion interface. From the very vague information I have seen online the expansion port is only designed to work with the CV Laser and not the Falcon Module.
