3D printing addiction!

HELP! Ever since I bought my first 3D printer in October 2024 I’ve felt like when I’m home on my days off I HAVE to be printing something. It feels like an addiction. Am I wrong and will this feeling go away? I’m having a blast.

Anyone else feel this way?

Always. Be careful or you will end up with 10+ printers like me

Believe me when I say I’ve been looking seriously at resin printers.:grimacing:

Part of me wants to try a resin printer. But dealing with the mess and smell doesn’t appeal to me so keep talking myself out of it.

That’s really the only thing that I have reservations about as well. I really like the detail they can provide.

Yes, I too have a plastic addiction. I need to print something every day to have a feeling of accomplishment. If I’m having a bad day, I can print some silly little thing and feel better. Someone needs to study the phenomena. At least give it a name.

“Printaholics”?

Yes, that is the feeling. As simple as Dummy 13 is it sure did make me feel good and I had fun printing it and assembling it.

Creality was looking for a better name for the experts forum. I would argue there are no “experts”, just seasoned veterans. Maybe we call it Printaholics.

Yea, those smells are telling you, “these are nasty chemicals” My daughter is a chemist and she insists I get a HEPPA filter with a power exhaust to outside before she will condone my venture into resin. I’ve been looking at vent systems I can print on my FDM.

I’ve had an Ender 3-V2 for several months now, and it has been busy. My son was to upgrade his printer, so he passed this one on to me. He was printing more stuff for me than for himself anyway. Once you start printing, and gain some knowledge, and realize the possibilities and printer capabilities.

At church, the brackets for supporting 8x10 sign frames were broken and held together with tape and name tags. They were a poor design so I made them thicker and added gussets to carry the side loads. They are a 2 hour print and I printed 75 of them, over many days. I’m printing floor door stop inserts (TPU) for the church now. So, I’m either printing, designing components on TinkerCad, or on AstroPrint generating gcode files. Now I joined the forum so that is another layer of the printing addiction, I guess.

If you haven’t already, get FreeCAD and learn yourself some 3D design and you’ll have new superpowers where anything is possible. I’m currently printing a TPU flange for a water feature I’m building for my yard, there’s endless opportunities, enjoy! I think a lot of 3D printers end up in the yard sale because they’ve finished printing all the online gizmos and the owner believes 3D drawing skillset is beyond them.

Yes! Let it take over!

I’ve already designed a few things for my 1971 Corvette on Tinkercad. I haven’t ventured into FreeCAD yet but that is on my horizon. I’m also looking at laser scanners to scan and print. I guess once you go down the 3D rabbit hole you keep diving deeper and deeper.
