4000+ hour scheduled maintenance

Mid-Mileage Maintenance

Hello fellow printer enthusiast.

My K2Pro has about 4K hours on it, I print mostly PLA but occasionally print abrasives (PETC-CF, Glow-in-the-dark, wood etc.)

I am looking for advice and instructions and parts/repair guides that are not listed easily on here or Creality’s store.

I’m planning on tearing into the machine soon for an overhaul and would like to know what to get prior to opening it up as to keep my down and clutter in the dining room time limited.

  • what are the recommended wear items life expectancies for things like
    • pulleys, belts, tool head
  • Where can i find replacement parts for
    • pully bearings
    • x/y belt
  • Where can i find instructions on how to replace belt pulleys? I know ill have to tear the machine apart but it would be nice if there was some foreshadowing.

I also know these machines are “consumer grade” and built more like an appliance vs an industrial machine however, like my cars, i like to keep them until the wheels fall off..

Any help would be wonderful!

Wait until parts fail before you replace them…

Parts I have replaced until now (a few times :slightly_smiling_face: with 3000+ hrs of printing):

  • Filament Run-Out Sensor
  • Nozzle

Both parts we had to replace because we only print with PLA-CF that is more abrassive then PLA.

I don’t have specific obvious failure points but i do notice a communicative wear items that exacerbate one another.

Once I’m in the machine, i want to be intimate with it

lol I like this approach please document your process it would be a great opportunity for others to see

こんにちは。
凄いですね4000時間。私のK2Proはまだ730時間です。
エラーでの部品交換はしました。
4000時間までメンテナンスが不要な事を実証されているのは心強いです。
大変参考になりました。
ありがとう。

Yes, 4K. Dont get me wrong, its had its moments and i have very much argued with it within that 4K hours. However, nothing terribly major has happened. Ive replaced the hot end, muiltiple extruder modules (the gears are kinda bad for abrasive filaments) and other wear items like nozzles and PTFE tubing. Fortunatly nothing structral or electrical has needed work.

I’m at that point though where I feel in my bones something is about to break or get worn out. Its not nearly as reliable now as it was new for example, im getting more failed prints more often whereas right out of the box i rarely saw a messed up print.

Not sure if this helps, but here’s a few links to their guides/videos:

Personally, before replacing loads of parts, I’d start with a deep inspection, clean, retention/tension check and full recalibration.

I’m an engineer by trade, and in my experience replacing parts unnecessarily can sometimes make a machine perform worse temporarily, especially when the original components have worn in evenly together. At ~4K hours though, some consumable/wear items are definitely worth checking closely.

I’d specifically inspect:

  • belt tension and belt edge wear

  • idler/pulley bearing noise or play

  • extruder gear wear

  • PTFE condition

  • nozzle wear

  • rail smoothness/play

  • toolhead cooling performance

If you’re using abrasives regularly, the extruder assembly is probably one of the biggest candidates for wear/drift.

I’d only replace motors/sensors if you’re seeing actual symptoms pointing toward them, as steppers themselves are usually pretty robust.

You may find a proper clean, re-tension, lubrication where appropriate, fresh thermal compound on relevant heatsink/hotend interfaces, and recalibration brings a surprising amount of performance back.
