I have improved the design of the spool holder for the Ender S5 a bit. The factory holder is just a plastic axle on which the spool rotates. The problem is, there is friction between that plastic and the spool, especially if the spool is still full and heavy. Then, instead of smoothly rotating, the spool can be pulled up ever so slightly by the filament, and only when the force overcomes the friction, it rotates. This sends shock waves along the filament, which then causes small blemishes in the print. This can be seen especially on smooth surfaces.
I designed a better support where the filament spool smoothly rotates on ball bearings, completely eliminating the friction and the shock waves.
The triangular support with the new axle attaches to the rear strut, where the factory holder normally attaches.
My prints have become a lot smoother and professional-looking since that modification. I thought I’d share this here. Let me know if you have comments.
