Anyone using this non-Creality extruder (K1/K1C)? (Pic attached)

Bought one of these from Amazon last week. As usual with Chinese stuff, there are several vendors offering what looks like the same item.

My question is about the lack of a lock/unlock lever like those on the factory extruder. The spring-loaded knob lacks any sort of detent to let you know the filament is in the right location, and if you loosen that knob just a tiny bit too far the whole knob/screw/spring pops out and it is a b-gg-r to get it back in place.

So, for any of you who may be using one of these, what’s the drill for changing filaments?

Hello, I used this extruder before upgrading to the CFS-C, and it was a shame to lose that upgrade. After I received this extruder, I used it, but I didn’t like the spring tension. I solved this issue by increasing the screw length to 22-23 mm. This allowed me to adjust the tension and reduced the load on the motor, which caused it to run cooler. Another improvement was replacing the gears with metal ones. I ordered them from China on AliExpress, gears for a regular extruder, but for them to work properly on the axis, I need another bearing. This modification can be found on YouTube, bearing number MR83ZZ-2.5 (3X8X2.5 mm).

Looks good - only thing that’s missing is how to replace the original plastic gear on the tilt-out section (right hand gear as seen from the printer front when installed). The post on which this gear spins seems to be immovable except by brute force (at least on the one I have).

Yes, to push out the pin you need to apply force; you can knock it out with an axle of a smaller diameter, but it must be strong.
