I’m on Creality Print 6.2.2 on a Windows machine. I can always apply text to a surface the first time, but when go to a second or third face, it places on the build plate.

Me too! There needs to be a way to move text to a chosen surface. I know in theory it has that feature, but in practice it very rarely works.
