CFS retract failure - buffer seems to need manual assistance

Nearly getting these every time I’m using the CFS. Curious what others have done to remedy this, as it’s not a false alarm in this case and I have to push the buffer ‘forward assist’ as I refer to it (like with firearms lol) in order to get it to feed back into the unit. Hope everyone’s having a great day.

Following. Never got my CFS to actually work properly.

It worries me greatly hearing all these CFS issues people are having as my Creality Hi Combo arrives today. I have been in contact with Creality and enqired what they are doing but only received assurances that their quality is of the highest standard blah blah blah.
I have done a lot of research into the matter and come to the conclusion the CFS is a very fussy beast and all needs to be sweet for it to perform. To that end I have checked the diameter of all my filament rolls and printed clip-on reinforcement rings for the edges of any cardboard rolls .
Further to this I intend to use only Esun PLA+ HS filament. For any other more exotic filaments I will use only the stand alone filament spooler on top of the gantry. Fingers crossed the CFS will behave. Expensive addon if it doesn’t

Normally my CFS behaves as expected, however I noticed with a couple of new spools that due to the distance between the sides of the spool, with an almost empty spool the retraction sometimes did not go well. Apparently the weight and the pressure from the spool-pressure-things on top were enough for full spools, but for empty spools not so much. Further investigation led to the conclusion my spools are just a tiny bit to small (a millimeter wider would have been good), and thus there is friction between the spool and the inner CFS spoolguides.
Could be matching your problem too?

This could also happen if the spool diameter is to small, and the spool is not pushed hard enough on the rubber axles at the front.

I guess I just need to respool those smaller spools to a wider one and/or switch to another brand, although I love the results with my current brand.
