CFS Unreliable

My Creality Hi Combo is still new, have it for about two weeks now.

It’s been a painful two weeks.

The root of my issue lies with the reliability of the CFS. I simply cannot rely on a print to complete without CFS related issues. As I’m typing this I just received a notification that my print (back at home) has stopped due to a retraction issue (FR2849). This happens to 100% of my prints, multiple times. I just took 24+ hours to complete an 11-hour print because the CFS required constant manual intervention.

I know the cause of the issue, the filament spools fails to turn sufficiently during retraction. The Sunlu spools are problematic because they have a small diameter, I fixed this issue by printing a rim, had to go through a few iterations of rims, but the last one I installed seems to work and hasn’t failed retraction since, yet.

However, I’m also struggling with Fil-X spools, and I’ve even had this happen on a standard Creality EN-PLA (1kg) spool once. The Fil-X spool has roughly the same diameter and width as the Creality Spool. I can’t see any reason why the spools fails to turn consistently. There seems to be a lack of grip/purchase between the spools and the rollers. The CFS unit is closed and latched in the locked position.

Admittedly this post is a bit of a rant, but I’m open to the possibility that this is a user-issue and I would really appreciate ANY advice, specifically for improving the reliability of spool rotation during retraction on the CFS.

Thank you in advance!

I’ve had mine for 2 days. I haven’t been able to print anything using the CSF. it keeps saying that there is a buffer error. I’m glad I’m in the return period.

My Creality Hi combo is also two weeks old and has been running fine so far. I have been pretty particular about the filament I am using and the quality and size of the spools. You could try this link

Can you tell me if there is a file for this? Same thing happened with mine, and after my first print that was supposed to be 16 hours and took 2 days (only being at the shop 10 hrs a day) I contacted support and am now waiting for a replacement CFS unit.
I am looking for everything and anything to work… I debated for a long time on attempting a multi color printer and now starting to wish I hadn’t.

Agree, had mine for less than a week and ready to pack it back up and send it back…

Hi, I used this rim. However, since writing the original post I’ve had failures even on this rim. But it’s definitely an improvement. https://makerworld.com/en/models/650361-sunlu-reusable-gen-2-spool-ams-adapter?fbclid=IwY2xjawKY_E5leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHmID1mLktDGlQt4TwDwnC2xocjGZBK6IJlQUZRoec-n9B5_urJEgwWsHlXIr_aem_2zjTFjqzVYiQUwhjmkE0-g&from=search#profileId-619171

Yep, I’m still in my 30 days, as things are going I’ll probably return my Hi Combo and get the Bambu lab A1, I’ve asked around, alot, and the consensus is that the AMS Lite doesn’t have this issue and mostly everyone says it just works. I wonder if Creality even tested their CFS with 3rd party filaments, surely they can’t expect is to buy only Creality filament?

This article basically advises us to reader Creality filament to avoid issues (in a nutshell). I’m not willing to accept that as a reasonable resolution.
