Color map output

Hey,

I´m trying to know more about the quality of the color map output to develop assets for CGI. Not interested in printing any objects, just have the model with the color map to insert them in a CG environment. Can’t find information anywhere. can someone please point me to the right direction or give me some information about the output files?
thats you so much!

Do you want example output files? With which scanner? Ferret, Otter or Raptor?
Creality scan can output PNG files with textures, I think the PLY files it can also export would include the color information as well.
For example, I uploaded the texture as a gallery picture with the scan of these bananas with the Scan Ferret (it’s converted to a webp there), so just to see what this variant looks like without mapping it back to the bananas, you can see it here:

Thank you so much. Very helpful.
I’m thinking about buying the Otter for these kind of work I want to do. I need the best output color maps and a detailed model too. From small leafs to large pieces of wood, for example. Can you point me to a model with these kind of characteristics? And the maps too?

I can scan a piece of wood and a leaf tomorrow with the Otter.

That would be a great help!
Thank you so much.

Hello!
Did you get the chance to do that scans with the Otter? If so, can you please share the scan in highest possible res as well as the color map in max depth?
Thank you so much.

As a follow up from someone who is doing the exact same thing.

I am not sold on the Otter’s color capture. There is such a lack of control from the user standpoint that you really are only given what the software wants to give you. While for MOST that is ok, but for what you are talking about and what I want to do with it, its not enough.

The scans are super good! but the color maping is insanely lacking and the camera/color capture is honestly crap.

I have a Revopoint Mini as well, and the color capture/texture generation is much better as well as it gives you a per point color option. Creality only offers a uv texture, not per point color.

thanks! would you be so kind to share a scan with the color so I can take a look?

Hello. Glad to see your sharing. If you have any question or suggestion, you can join our community for discussion: Redirecting...

Hi! Do you see any chance that there will be an improvement of the color map quality wihin the software. Do you know how they capture the color information while scanning?

I’m working with the Otter to scan archaeological finds for archives. The scan quality is (mostly) great but the color/texture map is complete crap. So I’m still spending hours to create a texture out of photographs taken alongside the scanning process and mapping it on the Otter-Scan. This is absolutely not efficient! Does anyone have any suggestion?

Thank you very much!

I am doing the same thing and I agree with you about the quality color mapping. I did find that adjusting the exposure helped and I have ordered a motorized turn table will help. I used the Revopoint MetroX and got good color mapping with their turn table. I returned that scanner as it would not scan anything dark and the software crashed a lot. Raptor scans much better using blue laser mode. I will post the results next week when I get all the stuff in and working.

Ok bad news for Crealitiy Scan Nothing I can do to make the color mapping decent. The turn table and adjusting the brightness of the led’s Not even close to the Revopoint MetroX output. I guess I will have to return the scanner and look elsewhere for a scanner that has good color mapping. I hate to return this scanner as it dose a wonderful job with mesh images.
