Hey,
I´m trying to know more about the quality of the color map output to develop assets for CGI. Not interested in printing any objects, just have the model with the color map to insert them in a CG environment. Can’t find information anywhere. can someone please point me to the right direction or give me some information about the output files?
thats you so much!
Do you want example output files? With which scanner? Ferret, Otter or Raptor?
Creality scan can output PNG files with textures, I think the PLY files it can also export would include the color information as well.
For example, I uploaded the texture as a gallery picture with the scan of these bananas with the Scan Ferret (it’s converted to a webp there), so just to see what this variant looks like without mapping it back to the bananas, you can see it here:

Thank you so much. Very helpful.
I’m thinking about buying the Otter for these kind of work I want to do. I need the best output color maps and a detailed model too. From small leafs to large pieces of wood, for example. Can you point me to a model with these kind of characteristics? And the maps too?
I can scan a piece of wood and a leaf tomorrow with the Otter.
That would be a great help!
Thank you so much.
Hello!
Did you get the chance to do that scans with the Otter? If so, can you please share the scan in highest possible res as well as the color map in max depth?
Thank you so much.
As a follow up from someone who is doing the exact same thing.
I am not sold on the Otter’s color capture. There is such a lack of control from the user standpoint that you really are only given what the software wants to give you. While for MOST that is ok, but for what you are talking about and what I want to do with it, its not enough.
The scans are super good! but the color maping is insanely lacking and the camera/color capture is honestly crap.
I have a Revopoint Mini as well, and the color capture/texture generation is much better as well as it gives you a per point color option. Creality only offers a uv texture, not per point color.
