Tried everything I can think off, with little success. So now I am reaching out.
I have the CR10 SE printer, and utilizing Creality Print (ver 4.3.7 or 4.3.8) running on a Mac Studio M1 computer, with OS Ventura. Ever since buying the CR10 SE and installing it, I have had zero troubles.
Until now.
The printer has been sitting for some time while I work some other issues, but Wed or Thur last week I was going to make some changes to a Fusion 360 project, but it was just not working right.
Tried my Creality Print, and it too was not working.
Further testing revealed somehow my Operating System had been updated to Sequoia (not sure I did this or not), but obviously it changed, Ventura was the latest version on the Mac Studio at the time, and everything worked fine. So the arduous troubleshooting task begins.
Installed every version of Mac OS between Sequoia and Ventura. Installed Creality Print versions 4.3.7, 4.3.8, 5.0.2, 5.0.3, 5.1.1, 5.1.2, and finally 5.1.4…
No success at any stage. Unable to find printer.
Found some reference to Show Package Contents entry change, but it was primarily for Windows. Found some others but the instructions were leaving me with other questions.
The printer is connected to my wifi network, and I have tried the Creality Print phone app to no avail.
At present I am sitting with OS Ventura install (fresh install performed, disk formatted using Disk Manager. I have also updated the firmware on the printer to V1.1.0.27, and perused the subjects on this site, and nothing seems to speak directly to my situation.
Unfortunately the answer to all 3 questions is NO. I know it is connected to my local network, I just cannot ping it. When I initially bought the printer and installed, I did not have to perform any extensive steps to root the printer, install Fluidd using any special hardware (arduino or raspberry).
Pretty Much, plugged it in - installed and started up my Creality Print and it worked.
I am going to view a few videos on rooting the printer, but since I have never done this, is this really needed?
Rooting is not needed, if you type in the IP-address of your printer, you should see the Creality web-interface. You only need rooting if you want to install Fluidd or Mainsail. Creality offers Mainsail and Fluidd on their Github page: GitHub - CrealityOfficial/CR-10SE_Annex. The only thing is that these versions are seven months old and you can’t update anything because Creality removed the option for updating the software for some reason.
Thanks for the clarification on rooting. FYI, when I updated the firmware (to ver 1.1.0.27) I see a menu item titled “Root Account Information”, but when selected you get the Disclaimer screen, a checkbox indicating you understand the risk, with an OK button. But when clicked, next screen shows Account Root password, root disclaimer right pointing arrow, Root account information with left pointing arrow, and nothing else.
did the 1.1.0.27 update not complete all the way or is that file corrupt?
Then there is the fact that typing the IP address in url bar produces nothing, cannot find printer. Ping of the ip address also fails.
any helpful hints on how to revert back to an earlier version of the firmware, say 1.1.0.23, a link with detailed instructions? Everything I am finding is unclear.
That is the procedure for root access, you press the left arrow and that’s it. If you install a program like Putty you can enter the ip adress, select Accept and the login and password is root and Creality2023 and you’ll get a command prompt, the same as in Linux because the printer runs on Linux. If you don’t install anything, nothing changes. Root access is only intended to install additional software, like Mainsail.
But the thing about not finding the printer, did you check the ip address in the printer screen ? Sometimes your router gives it another address after a reboot. But if it still not works, maybe a factory reset would solve this. My printer works fine with the latest firmware so I don’t think it’s necessary to revert to 1.1.0.23. I believe it’s not even possible if to downgrade the firmware, at least, not without a lot of fuss.
OK, for now I am going to by-pass anything about root access.
But not finding printer is perplexing. I have 2 network scanners that tell me the ip address of all attached equipment, and they both say the same.
The printer screen, on the mac studio, is No-Go, since I can’t see the printer at all anyway.
Printer info on the Creality screen (system > network ) shows the ip address which is the one i put into my browser.
Also, whether wifi or direct connect using usb, nothing connects.
One thing I will try is installing usb drivers on the mac studio.
It is the only thing I have yet to try.
UPDATE:
I have just found out the Brother printer we have is having the same “Unable to find” issue. As well, my Synology DS218+ NAS is producing the same error.
This has me confused, and p&s%ed.
I have backtracked the operating system on my Mac Studio to Monterey in the hopes that going back to what was a totally functioning setup will work.
Testing:
Pinging 3D printer
configuring Brother Laser printer
configuring Synology NAS
Configuring Mac OS software "Monterey, Venrura, Sonoma, and Sequoia.
Currently I have installed macOS Monterey
bringing OS software back to previous version (I know everything worked fine,
Maybe after going all the way back to Monterey where things worked, things will pic*
I don’t have a Mac, but I don’t see why the OS would block access to network devices. I’d rather look at firewall software or the router/modem. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not an expert, just things that come to mind. I know from experience that these things can make you go ballistic…
Just a question: Have you reserved the IP address of your printer under the DHCP settings of your router? I’m guessing, but I think you may have an IP address conflict where 2 devices think they have the same address thereby both cannot communicate
This message goes out to everyone who replied to my post, I appreciate your time and efforts.
But I figured out my issue in the wee hours this morning.
All of my testing on my computer failed to make any difference, same result no matter the changes.
So I looked into my MESH system. While rummaging through all the changes and parameters in there, my memory was jogged with thoughts of what I was playing with a couple months ago.
Specifically, playing around with settings within my computers MESH interface, I found a parameter for “Block computer from seeing anything on the local network”.
It peeked my interest, just what would it block my computer from doing. But I decided to try it at a later time, so I closed the app on my iPad.
I don’t do much regarding printing, and for the past couple of months the 3D printer has been idle, so that simple parameter was forgotten. Plus since I just exited the screen, it should not have been saved in the first place.
But it was, so my computer was isolated from other objects on my network.
Found the parameter, Disabled it, tried creating my printer and everything worked fine.
So, User Error… I’m just glad things are back to normal, got several new 3D objects to print for a project I am working on.
