Hi all,
I’m considering the Falcon A1 10W, but I need to engrave a small area (about 10×5 cm) on a long wooden board (50×20 cm, oak) that won’t fit inside the machine.
My idea: remove the bottom plate and place the machine directly on top of the board, so the board surface is flush with the bottom edge of the frame (no feet, no risers).
Has anyone tried this? My main question is focus: the A1 has manual focus (focus block + the two thumbscrews on the head). With the bottom plate removed and the surface sitting at the very bottom of the frame, can the laser head be lowered far enough to reach the correct focus distance?
Specifically:
- Roughly how many mm below the original baseplate surface can the head still go?
- Does the focus block (highest step for engraving) still work in this setup, or does the head hit its lower limit?
- Any problems with camera alignment after removing the plate? (I’d calibrate with the dot card at the new height, or just use framing.)
I found a thread where an A1 Pro owner removed the baseplate and engraved pieces that didn’t fit, but the A1 Pro has autofocus, so I’m not sure it applies to the A1 10W.
Photos or videos of the setup would be great. Thanks!
