Creality Print 5 Organic Supports Printing in Mid-Air

I have given up on organic (Tree Auto) supports in CrealityPrint 5. There are supports with their bases positioned in mid-air (see screenshot). If you don’t look closely at the sliced model in the software, you wouldn’t notice that they are not attached to anything–they are literally floating in space. See the image below. I won’t even get into the “Manual” settings for supports, which I have not once succeeded in getting to work correctly. Their “normal” supports waste soooo much filament, too.

Has anyone else experienced these issues with organic supports?

I tried using trees several times and almost always the trees are stronger than the print.

Increase top Z distance a little to about 0.2/0.25 and decrease the tip diameter to 0.5/0.6. I use tree supports sometimes and they are easy to remove.

I have had my tree supports configured in that range for a long time. They are still difficult to remove. Mostly the small ones. Seems they put out way more branches than they need. Way too many trees also. I wish I could figure out how to do manual supports or edit the automatic supports to delete the unnecessary ones.

In 4.3.8 version you could turn off support interface, I can’t see it in 5.1, that’s the thing that would help give the barest minimum support.

You might be able to set the number of support interface layers to zero.

I made some support changes as suggested, and I am printing a test piece.

Support density was set to 90% and I reduced that to 30%. The print came out much better and the supports came off easily.
