Creality Print adds Automatic brim- causes model to fail

I have a model which I created in FreeCAD which was 40mm long and I printed a few and they all came out OK on my K1 which is only 1 month old.
I needed the same part printed but 280mm long so I elongated the part in FreeCAD and sent it to CP which told me the part was too long for the bed. I managed to set the part diagonally and CP was OK with this. The model is now at the bottom-left and goes up to the top-right of the bed.

It automatically added a brim to the part which had the following settings:
Bed Adhesion:
Skirt Loops: 0
Skirt Speed: 50 mm/s
Brim Type: Auto
Brim-object gap: 0.1 mm

Prime Tower:
Brim width: 3 mm

I’m new to the CP app so I accepted the defaults and the model printed OK, however after waiting 5 minutes for the bed to cool, I tried to lift the model off the bed with the brim and the model came apart leaving the first layer stuck to the bed with strands of filament hanging out the bottom.

I tried it again, this time I set the Brim-object gap to 0.2 mm and it worked OK. To be sure, I then changed the Infill direction to 0 so that the infill would print at 45 degrees from the walls and set the Bridge infill direction to 45 so that the bridges across the small 5mm openings would at right-angles to the opening. This printer well again.

Just goes to show that when using CP, automatic settings are not Always the best settings!

CP version is 5.0.3.8744
Printer is K1
Model- 40mm

PS: I was naughty and tried printing the model without a brim and overall it was OK however the ends lifted off the bed about 0.25 mm, still OK to use tho.

How about no brim and gluestick? No shame in using gluestick. Currently printing a full bed of 10 parts of different diameters, this will run overnight so belts and braces will use gluestick on that run.

I think that’s kind of a given for any program that the default settings are just to get started and are not always the best for your model.

Auto brim just puts down the minimum to help the model stay put but unless you are using PETG here which sticks pretty hard I don’t think that’s the slicer fault. Looks like maybe some filament or extruder under extruding or…?

For 90% of my prints I use no brim. I use hairspray as glue, works fine for me. For the textured “B” plate, I can usually print with no glue.
