I am hoping that someone can help me with an explanation of what happens here.
In Creality Print 5.1, occasionally I load an .stl file that gives me an error message that says ‘Model ***.stl has integrity error’, and then a ‘Repair’ link. If I click on the link, it starts a routine that begins with the main window grayed out and a typical green progress bar at the top. The progress bar goes half way across the top, and stops.
I have let this process go for 48 hours a few times, and nothing ever occurs. Since the window is greyed out and no options are available (in Windows), I just close the window.
I have successfully printed the .stl file by ignoring the error and the subsequent layer error, without issue.
Can anyone explain any facet of what is supposed to happen when I send a 'stl file for ‘Repair’? Does it go to a cloud print server for processing? Or?
Are the servers perhaps overwhelmed?
STL’s are mesh’s/point clouds. They are not solidly defined objects, and occasionally have gaps between points, or other slight anomallies.
Fixing an STL means making sure there are no weird gaps or other issues in the mesh. If Creality Print is running into issues, try looking into MeshMixer, from Autodesk. It is old, and I believe abandoned, but has been used previously by people to fix problems in STL’s (don’t think it can support 3MF, that might be too new for it).
https://www.meshlab.net is an alternative to Meshmixer. Blender can also be used and Fusion360 incorporates a lot of Meshmixer.
