Creality Print v5.1.2 - What's going on?

As a newcomer to 3D printing, I’ve been working with Cura and getting used to the various settings. Just for something different, I downloaded Creality Print.

I’d printed off half a dozen scalpel covers in Cura with no problem, copied the settings into Creality Print and what happened? The first attempt left me with a pile of string and the second attempt has completely clogged up the nozzle! Both prints were stopped after maybe 5 minutes. What’s going on? Are the Creality Print settings so very different to Cura or am I missing something?

Cheers

Pile of string probably means your z-offset is out and would need to be adjusted. Which printer are you using? I can’t use it with my E3V3SE + sonic pad.

I’m using my Ender 3 KE

I’d already printed some bits after slicing with Cura with no problem. I’ve ten copied the setting to Creality Print, sliced it and now I have to clean off all the moulten plastic from the nozzle.

I also have a KE. I also had the “glob of death” issue.

I bought another PEI plate from Amazon to replace the one that came with my machine. I haven’t had a “glob of death” issue since.

It appeared to me that the objects weren’t holding properly onto the provided PEI plate. The new PEI plate held them in position and I had no further issues.

Most everything that I’ve sliced with the Creality Print slicer has worked well, with the exception of loading a .jpg directly. I do that often (for Lithophanes) using Cura, but was unable to get the CP slicer to work. I’ll try again, though.

I thought I’d sorted it all, but no! It happens each time I use CP so it’s probably something I’m missing in the settings. Having said that, I’ve used the same settings for CP as I’d used on Cura (as close as I could get them) but still had the issue.

I’m a novice to 3D printing so things will improve as I learn…hopefully!

Try slicing the very same STL in Cura. Move the Cura gcode to CP in the DEVICE segment by IMPORTING your Cura file. After Importing, select it and call for PRINT. That will, at least, prove if the original file was causing your issues or not. The newest version of CURA has the KE in it now.

Oh, I see you are using v5.1.2 I was having a lot of issues with that version (as were others from what I read)…I backed down to an earlier version 4.8??? and that solved my issues.

OK…so I had a go at importing the Cura file as you suggested but no. Exactly the same thing :pensive: I’ll try reverting to an earlier version (didn’t think of that) when I get round to it and see if that helps.

Somebody once said that computers were like cars and each time new software came out, you had to learn to drive all over again!

Still, if at first you don’t succeed…

I think you have a great attitude about all of this. Now, think of this…if you tried a different slicer (Cura) and got the same results…the issue is with the FILE not the printer or either slicer. At least, that is what I think. Try a different file. I’ll send you a simple one in a minute that I tried when I had an issue.

Here is a small tool file that works for many people. Try printing it. You can slice with Creality or Cura…I doubt that it matters. All you are trying to prove is whether it was your original file that was buggy, or something else. A BIT with a GRIP - A must have for your toolbox! by Prntmkr - Thingiverse

Rich, are you a mind reader or something? I printed off that hex-handle on Saturday evening! :astonished: There was also a hex-bit drawer for storing the bits and both printed perefectly after being sliced with Cura. I haven’t tried it in CP yet but I’ll give it a go.

I think the original files that I printed (scalpel blade covers) were fine. They printed without problem in Cura so I’m sure that they aren’t the problem. I think the problem is…me! Yes, good old ‘user error!’ :flushed:  :joy:

Maybe I’m just trying to learn too much at once and should learn how to do one thing at a time and then use that knowledge on different software. I’m fascinated with the entire 3D printing hobby and wish I’d started sooner.

delete…now please

A few weeks ago, (after printing for almost 4 years on 4 different printers), I went through a spat of my printer saying it had “wrong temperature indication” with my new Ender KE. It was stopping mid way through the first ten minutes of printing.

I thought it was the thermistor, since I had the “Glob of Death” a week or so earlier. I ordered a new Hot End…

Then, I suddenly got the “maybe its the file?” feeling. I resliced the original file in Cura and it printed just fine. I’ve sliced a few other things in CP with no issues.

So, in my case, it was just a corrupted file…that led me to suggest the same thing to you. Good Printing. This 84 yr old loves it!

I think I may have cracked it. Yesterday I printed a small sanding block using CP. I checked every single setting, changed a few, sliced and printed. It printed but not a fantastic job so I changed a few more settings in CP, sliced and printed again. 3 hours later and I now have an almost perfectly printed sanding block. Maybe it needs a couple more tweaks but it’s good enough to use as it is.

You still have 20 years on me! Keep going and keep the grey matter working! :+1:
