The spool holder has been damaged on its own, without any type of external action or filament installed. Only the noise of one part being thrown away was heard.

I would think the filament jumped the roll and became tangled. Filament jammed on spool holder and extruder keeps pulling and voila……broken spool holder. There’s a lot of torque in those extruders
