Ender 3 firmware on Nebula instead of Ender 3 Max Neo

Finally, after many attempts (instruction manual is useless) have the Nebula installed on the Ender 3 Max Neo. However, the printer thinks it is a Ender 3 and not a Max Neo so when doing bed leveling it does for the smaller bed on the Ender 3. I finally got the pad to accept the flash by copying the file firmware_Nebula_Pad.bin from the USB that came with the kit. When asked to select printer I selected the Max Neo. Now I see there is a new version of the firmware and it is named NEBULA_ota_img_V1.1.0.27.img from the Creality website. I put it on the formatted USB I used to originally flash the pad after removing the bin file. However, it sees the USB as a flash drive but it does not update the firmware. Instead, the pad boots up just like it was. What am I doing wrong? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
