Ender 3 v2, w/upgrades, stringing and poor print quality

First off Sonic The Hedgehog is life to my son who is 6. I told him I was going to print a large sonic for him and he was so happy. But after upgrading the hotend and making the extruder vertical nothing is looking good when I print it.

Please help me correct this issue so I can make my son happy.

Here are the upgrades I have for my printer:

  • Yellow stiff bed springs
  • Red dials for the bed
  • Creality Dual Z Axis
  • Magnetic flexible bed
  • Creality CR Touch
  • Vertical Extruder Kit
  • Creality All Metal Extruder
  • Creality Spider 3.0 Pro hotend
  • Bowden PTFE tube

Recently I upgraded to the spider hotend and the vertical extruder kit.

The thing is that my prints are not looking great. I leveled the bed 3 times and the Z axis with the paper method while having the bed and hotend heated.

I’m using Cura to do the slicing. I’ve printed Temperature, Retraction, and Speed towers.

All the towers did not look great. There was stringing and blobing.

Here are the main settings I have and I want to see if anyone is using anything different with these upgrades.

I’m using PLA made by Creality.

Hotend Temperature: 200 °C
Retraction Distance: .05 mm
Bed Temperature: 60 °C
Speed: 60 mm/s

I’m not quite sure what I’m doing wrong here.

Turns out it was the Creality Spider 3.0 Pro hotend causing the issue. I tried every setting possible to get it to print cleanly. All calibration towers looked bad.

Your current retraction distance is 0.05mm, which might be too small, leading to insufficient retraction and resulting in stringing and blobbing. You can try increasing the retraction distance to 0.8mm to 1.5mm and adjust the retraction speed to 40mm/s to 60mm/s to reduce stringing during printing. I encountered the same problem when printing Yuda Master with PETG filament before.
