Ender 3 V3 Plus remove KCM Set

As per the subject I need to reset my printer to default after removing the CoPrint KCM set.

I can easily load an older firmware but pretty sure I need to roll back the printer.cfg and I don’t have it.

Does anyone have a printer.cfg that works with a stock Ender3 V3 Plus?

Thanks

Can you just use the printer menu to reset to factory default… ?

I was able to apply an older firmware which reset the CFG. I didn’t think that was part of what gets written. Thanks!

Why did you remove the CoPrint system?

I must have taken a wrong turn while configuring as I was getting nowhere. I ended up needing to do a factory reset which left me in a state where it always wanted to run the startup wizard (and the self check can’t succeed wiithout the stock tool head).

I’ll probably try again but the docs aren’t complete or more than 90% accurate, and I had never touched Klipper before.

Also, the result isn’t as much of a seamless user friendly system as the marketing material seemed to make it out to be. More tinkering and setup than I want from a printer. I just bought a K2 Plus with CFS and will let my son tinker with this one.

You can bypass the self check Creality K1 Max Skip the Startup Self-Check

Thanks, I had done that to try and move along but it is only temporary (needed each time you power up?). As the CoPrint also uses the USB port I think I was having issues caused by swapping this USB stick, my USB extender seemed to be flakey with it AND I didn’t want to always have to keep a USB stick there just for that.

Do you have a USB hub you could plug into the printer? You could have co print and the USB drive at the same time

Thanks but no need (that’s what I meant by USB extender). I got it all sorted and am back to stock. Updated firmware and also had to wipe the printer from the command line in a terminal session to go all the way back.

To be clear the CoPrint team is quite responsive. The docs and configuration are not ‘print out of the box’ by any stretch and from what I know you can’t just use Creality Print or the Creality cloud slice and print anymore. I want a simple workflow when it is all that is needed (eg from my phone) and am happy to open a separate slicer on my workstation (but only when needed).

Is there a way to close an issue?

We’ll leave it open as someone will have questions or answers that might help others using the system…
Appreciate all the info that you shared…!

I have just purchased the Creality/ Coprint system for my Ender3 V3. It is a complete kit tailored to suit my printer and comes with special Creality firmware. I am hoping this will tie in with Creality print 6. I am assuming the Coprint system you are reporting on was the more generic system purchased from Coprint. My system was purchased from Creality Australia (still awaiting arrival) You mentioned you were handing your printer over to your son so he maybe interested in obtaining the Creality firmware here Ender 3v3 KCM Set Setup Page | Co Print Wiki

Yup, I did purchase from Coprint directly. The only difference (I think) is that you need to 3D print some parts yourself.

PARTS MISSING

That wasn’t clear in the Coprint provided directions on the Coprint website. It says the parts are required at the top of the page on the Coprint Wiki page you linked but then says throughout the directions things like:

Note: The Connection Part is already included in the box.

It isn’t unless you bought from Creality.

Mounting CX-I ExtruderPlace the extruders onto the 4-extruder holder included in the box as shown in the diagrams.

It isn’t unless you bought from Creality. (again, this is on the Coprint website, in a Coprint document)

Filament holder accessories are included in the box to place the filaments.

This was just a shipping error by Coprint as apparently they were supposed to be shipped - they are shipping now.

This lack of parts might be a small thing, but it is a real pain if you have taken apart your toolhead (on your only 3D printer) before you open the boxes - because it said the parts were in the box, on a Coprint doc, on the Coprint wiki, with no mention of Creality.

DOCUMENT ERRORS

Additionally there were many other confusing pieces or errors in the docs.

  1. (not a docs issue but…)The Allen keys provided are the wrong size - I think Creality changed the size of many of the screws. I use a small hobby pen screwdriver , but it just doesn’t make you feel good about the whole thing.
  2. Step 3 says to format FAT32 which is a non starter with a larger partition or larger USB drive. I was fine but many people wouldn’t know what exFAT was or that it is fine to use.
  3. This image only highlights 3 of the 4 connectors that need to be removed: https://github.com/coprint/Wiki/blob/main/Wiki%20Images/tumkabcik.png?raw=true
  4. This image highlights the wrong connector to be unplugged:
  5. When assembling the Chromahead it says to use many M3x10 screws. There aren’t enough but the M3x12 and other sizes aren’t needed so just use what works.
  6. There are way more screws, nuts and parts included than you need. This may be because I bought direct from Coprint.
  7. The step 12 mentions extruder 1-4, when they are labelled 0-3 on the KCM. Programmers versus the human race (I used to be one so I can complain).

MISSING THE REST OF THE SETUP ON THIS PAGE

When you get the mechanical setup done you hit Step 23.
It tells you how to load and extrude filament and get things going. We must be done right?

Nope. The config files that are mentioned early on are never mentioned again. Hint: they are needed. Very needed.

If you have never used Klipper directly before, and are not familiar with Mainsail, Fluidd etc… then this is ALL brand new.

I tried to self service using this page after I copied the config files to the printer using Fluidd: Changes to be Made in printer.cfg when KCMSet is Installed | Co Print Wiki
I thought this could work as it clearly says:
“The changes made to the printer.cfg file of the Creality Ender 3 V3 Plus printer, which is compatible with KCMSet, are shown. If you are using another printer, you can see what to comment and what not to comment.”

DO NOT DO ANYTHING IN THIS PAGE ON THE WIKI IF YOU ARE USING THE ENDER3 V3 PLUS - despite what the comment above says.

The config files that are copied including printer.cfg are already changed when you download them. What is more confusing is that the changes DON’T match the recommended changes on the wiki page. The overall result is the same I think, but the changes are very different.

When I copied all of the config files over I still had an error about a duplicate PIN used in the config that I could not resolve. This may have just been me as I have been told the config files provided work. This is also why I assumed that more was needed and why I went looking for more Wiki pages. If it had just worked… I wouldn’t be here.

At this point I tried to factory reset which put me into a state where the startup wizard kept coming up and could never be completed (I could bypass but not make it go away permanently) without the og toolhead. I figured I would completely rest to stock and try again when I was in a better place.

PS I did share these docs issues with Coprint and so hopefully they resolve them. They were also quick to respond.

PPS I hope this helps someone.

Here’s an example of something I find confusing. That page you linked is the one I used.

Says to update your printer to the firmware provided by Creality. The page shows two firmware versions (both higher version than the latest stock firmware.) What and why?

The first firmware listed was for the Ender3 V3 Plus
The later version had the Ender 3 V3 added plus some bugs ironed out.
Both versions are special firmwares exclusively for use with the Ender 3 V3 / Plus & Co-Print combination.
With regard to the config files I have been in touch with Co Print support as they only mention the V3 Plus configs on the wiki page.
I received the following response
Hello Garry,

Thank you for reaching out to Co Print Support Team.

The firmware designed for the Ender 3 V3 Plus is also compatible with the Ender 3 V3.

You can download and install version 1.2.3.63 from the link below:

:link: Ender 3v3 KCM Set Setup Page | Co Print Wiki

Then, you should upload the printer.cfg, printer_params.cfg, and factory_printer.cfg files from the link below to your printer:

:link: Printer-Config-Files/Creality/Ender 3 V3 at main · coprint/Printer-Config-Files · GitHub

So in my case the configs for the Ender 3 V3 were not listed on the setup page. Interesting also that the only files that needed updating were printer .config, printer_params.config and factory_printer .cfg

I would assume that the latest Firmware version 1.2.3.63 would be the one to use for your V3 Plus given as it encompasses both the V3 and V3 Plus coupled with some bug fixes.

With regard to the config files the ones linked on the setup page are indeed only for the V3 Plus.
I would assume that only the files they have told me to update would be required but you could check that out with support. As you said previously the are very quick to respond and helpful.
Creality Print is also compatible.

I used the 0.63 firmware during my attempt.

However, I copied all of the config files provided (absent any information or instructions that would be expected I think).

I suppose copying ALL of the files may have caused the errors i saw (although you would assume that a group of files provided together would work together).

When we make a second attempt I’ll try just those files.

Hi install de Co-print las friday , i upgrade The Ender 3 v3 1.2.3.63 , with no problems. But with the info from co-print wiki and the info in github y reset to default 7 times. I think the information is to green and diferent in the wiki , the github , and the manual.

and today i reduce the bed config in orca slicer and move the parts , and it still say 16:46:16
!! {“code”:“key243”,“msg”:“Move out of range: 160.907 175.432 0.237 [346.301]”, “values”:[160.907, 175.432, 0.237, 346.301]}

Did you install Co Print on a V3 or a V3 Plus. I have a V3 and installed Co Print. Just finished converting back to standard as I found the Co Print system reduced my build plate area by half. The plate was reduced to 175mm in the Y axis and despite playing with the config files I could not get it past there. X axis was greatly reduced also due to the size of the Chroma Head. Print quality was also lousy, A very expensive 2 days all up. Anyone after a 4 colour Co Print sytem get in touch.

I install in a Ender 3v3 ,i send a mail to co-print support ,they respond if i buy ,from co-print they can support , But if i buy from creality i must hey support from creality
