So i just bought a brand new ender 3 v3 se. I havnt been able to print anything with it yet though. I feel like I am going to pull my hair out or something because everytime i try and print something it starts the first layer and that comeout fine but after the first layer the nozzle drags thru the first layer and then everything ends up a tangles stringy mess around the nozzle and this happens everytime. I feel like i have tried everything and tried to tweak every setting there is incrementally trying to get this to work. I have no idea where to go from here. am i missing something?
Hi
A bit more information will help everybody.
What slicer are you using?
Also filament type, printer temps and bed temps?
have you dialled in the “Z” offset?
Thank you for responding. i have tried creality print, ultimaker cura, ideamaker, bambu studio, super slicer, matter control…i have run the gamut on slicers. I have tried PLA and I have TPU. I am aware of the precarious nature of printing with TPU which is why ive tried with PLA as well. as far as printer temps and bed temps i have incrementally adjusted up and down both values as well as speed and cooling fan as printing with different filaments means different settings and i go by the suggested temps for the filaments. When i say i have tried everything i mean i have done a fairly thorought job (in my opinion) of troubleshooting. The “z” offset the only thing i have done is to do the leveling setting that the printer does when calibrating. If i’m being honest i know what the "z"offset is but i’m not sure what to do as far as "dialling " it in. there is alot of stuff an settings that i dont really understand and the tooltip when hovering on the setting in the slicers is confusing. I really appreciate any advice or help and thank everyone for their time. Even if there was a textbook about 3d printing or something i could reference would be super duper helpful.
OK, you need to start with the basics.
Slicer choice is a personal thing, many swear by Orca slicer. Creality print can be an issue, I use version 4.3.9 as the later versions cause me all sorts of problems.
Check all the belt tensions (use google to find out how).
download a test print https://www.printables.com/model/1327362-the-frist-layer-to-test-your-printer and slice.
Start out with your PLA, Generic stuff prints at 210 hotend 60 bed.
Run the print and see how it comes out. if you have issues it will show here.
The “Z” offset is in the screen menu, in general if you have gaps between the print lines increase the minus number (lowers the head), if there are no gaps but the print looks rippled then decrease the minus number (raises the head)
To be honest printing with a basic printer like the SE is a big learning curve, there are many V3 SE tutorials on Youtube, I really suggest you watch these and then make one change at a time until things print properly.
I received a used Ender 3 pro (my son puled it from the trash somewhere). It was in sad shape. I got to reading about what to replace and what to up grade. The major three things were the adding of a second z axis from amazon . A new mother board (Creality V4.2.7)
from amazon too, both about 65.00$
The motherboard includes the ‘MESH’ leveling function. And the dual z axis ball screws will KEEP YOU LEVEL! even after bumping the head .
I too had major adhering issues with my prints. It would get 80% done and get pushed or come off the platen . It also helps to add some 3D printing ‘Glue’ to the heated surface . Try these upgrades if you want .Yes your machine is new but the design is from 3 years ago . Creality has moved on from these mini machines to the larger enclosed multi color units. The Ender 3 series is a learner set of units.
I am a 40 year experienced CNC machinist . So the only aspect that was hard for me was the slicing software. I was told by a friend/college professor that Cura was the easiest (really was the hardest) to learn.
Firmware , that is free, can be gotten from many sites. At present I am using Marlin 2.0.9.3 (i think that’s it). Don’t be scared its real easy to install.
Sorry your having printing issues.
