Ender 5+ Auto-level jams print head into build plate

After some beginner’s luck, my printer frustrates. Each time I turn on the printer and set up to tram the plate, the print head centers, then starts auto leveling. After the initial two up-down strokes, the z-axis crushes the print head into the build plate. I have no idea how to fix this. I just re-flashed my mainboard to the latest version available on Creality.

My 5+ has done that once but not had it since. Have you noticed the levelling order that the print does? It tries to set the Z offset level and then it trams the corners. What I do is the opposite. Tram the corners, set the Z-offset followed by autolevel. Never had a crash since If I did it the other way the nozzle could be just about anywhere. All of that information is based on using the Sonic Pad, can’t remember how the machine did it but surely can’t be so different.

The behavior is very strange. It only jams the print head when locating home position. Once I get through that and attempt automatic leveling, it will go to all 16 locations just measuring with the sensor. However, any time I press home again from any screen, it jams the print head.

I’m thinking I did this to myself. I accidentally found the Z-offset icon while fumbling my way through menus. The factory default was -2.26mm. I thought I was doing the right thing by lowering it (I took it to -2.0) since I couldn’t get filament to stick to itself while attempting a print. Now I can’t find the place to reset it back to the factory. I really am a noob with this and haven’t touched it in several months, meaning that almost everything I learned at first is gone.

I’d like to reset the default Z-offset and see if that caused my issue. I just don’t know how to get there.

I wanted to provide an update for those who are tracking this issue but have not answered. I figured out the basic issue by consulting “YouTube University” and discovered that my Z-offset was way off (>+19). That’s what I get for fiddling around with settings I don’t understand. Unfortunately, the instructions that came with the printer don’t discuss how to reset the base Z-offset. Fortunately, several folks knew how to do it and posted videos that helped me correct the issue.
