print fails, partial clogs and slice skips. I have changed the nozzle and the heater element twice in the last 3 weeks, it prints great for a day or two then starting giving partial clogs and starts skipping slices, on the y axis drive screws there has been a lot of black soot like material, it has also showed up on the prints. I have cleaned the y axis drive screws 3 times and this black soot keeps coming back. I am printing in white pla so it is not filament dust any ideas? the Creality help desk is useless
I haven’t had these issues with either of my 2 E5Maxes. What type of filament and temps are you using?
Because the E5Max has a brass nozzle, you might want to turn down your nozzle temp a bit for a smoother result. The hardened steel nozzles like the K2 and Hi has, needs more heat. I was using 215 for the brass E5 nozzle but 220 for my other printers. I recently changed both maxes to the unicorn hardened steel Hi nozzle just to make my spare parts easier to manage, but also discovered it increased print quality more than I expected so I’m now using 220 like on all my other printers.
my Max 5 ran great for 6 months, for the last month it has been 50/50. Are you running PLA ? thanks I’ll give adjusting the temperature and the unicorn nozzle a try. I’ve used several PLA filaments from Creality to overture to Inland. I thought maybe it was the 3kg spool pull tension so I went back to 1kg still having challenges. when I replace the heater element and clean out the extruder and it runs great to a print or two then right back to partial clog and stringy/missing layers on my print. I’m trying replacing the extruder + motor + both fans in hope this solves the issue. any other suggestions?
