I need some help. I have had my ender 5 plus for just over a year and half now . Set it all up and was printing fine. Managed to print nearly half od a lifesize R2D2 and some fortnite weapons for display no problems. Went on hoilday about 6 months ago and now it wont print at all. Brought a enclosure for it now luck, new hot ends no luck, different type of PLA jo luck. Took it all apart and upgraded the extruder to all metal one, got a spider hot end and then managed to print of that ball pokemon thing and thought i was in luck but tried to print something else and wouldnt print. Tried loads of other prints nothing. It starts fine then doesnt seem to come out the hotend and in blobs. No idea what i need to so. So fed up with it now tried everything. Any ine any idea i would be greatful.
My Ender 5 Plus was a nightmare for going out of level/tram, I replaced the springs with silicone spacers and haven’t levelled in months. Once that is set and the z-offset is set it just prints and prints. Guessing you still have the original glass bed, I swapped mine out for magnetic PEI to improve bed adhesion, my sink area is too small to wash a massive bit of glass without smashing it, PEI is much easier to wash for that reason too.
The bed adhesive not the problem i dont think. It stick fine 99% of the time and then once its done a few layers is when it starts to go funny like only little bits coming out the hot end, i thinknit may be clogging so i stop the print clear it all and it sounds like it doesnt feed it through the extruder properly(clicking noise sort of)
esteps correct, I know mine underextrudes massively on default settings since fitting my direct drive extruder.
Would you say a direct drive is better then i uave just been looking at one?
For printing TPU yes, better to pull that soft rubbery filament than to try and push it through a long Bowden tube. Easier to work on if filament breaks in the extruder too.
I mainly print in PLA willnit make a difference?
For me the maintenance of a direct drive on the printhead sways it for me. The original extruder for the Ender 5+ was pretty shonky and quite hard to access. There are many alternatives on the market from Sprite SE extruders, Bondtech, E3D, Microswiss…depends how deep your pockets are.
That sprite se extruder would br amazing but i dont think my pockets go that deep just yet. Once i can get the printer working and no issues i would definitely invest in one.
My Ender5plus has the Microswiss NG, but they seem to be marmite in the community, some love them, some hate them. Probably jinx it now but it has been mostly trouble free…I shall prepare for blob of death when I am not looking.
Sorry for all the questions. Is this the correct one?
Would i need to do anything else to the printer? Or is it just swap that parts then print?
Many thanks
That is the one I have. It is a fairly straight forward swap, decent instructions included. Have to print a couple of things first here this version reuses the heater, thermistor and fans from the existing loom. link to the esteps settings, if you are running Klipper the rotation distance is 7.53
Thats the hard part my printer wont print lol. Going to try and print them before ordering. The 3d printing gods my look down on my haha
Got a spare PETG version if you want, I have replaced mine with an ABS version. DM me, guessing we are both in the UK.
