Putting the K1 Max back together after a major meltdown. Now we have error code 109. What is this??

Error 109 is telling you that the fan isn’t connected properly. You need to check that the connections are in the right place. 
Same happened to me. After a huge filament blob that took out the pan board I bought new board, both Extruder fans and even a slightly better hotend. After all the I get the 109 error. The fans have specific slots they go in. Can’t put them in the wrong place. Before I did factory reset I tested all fans and they all ran using the fan controller option in the menu. All the connections are in firmly including the one under the machine
