I am having issues with the laser engraver cutting or engraving actual circles. I tried using hexagons instead of circles, thinking straight lines might be easier for the machine to translate, but those are also deformed. Size does not seem to change the output with cuts as large as 1.5inches and as small as .25 both being out of round.
Any ideas why this might be happening? This is my first machine of this type, so I’m not sure where to begin. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Before returning, try removing the rear retaining pins, pull the track tight, then make sure all 3 retaining pins are installed and screwed down tight. This helped my issues.
Thank you for your response. I’m not sure what you mean by “retaining pins” and “track” but I just found the problem with mine. I had already checked the belt tensions, the set screws in all the timing pulleys, and all the bolts in the frame. Everything was good.
I tried Lightburn settings changes and even tried burning a circle with LaserGRBL to rule out software. I was losing my mind trying to find the issue.
Then, I found it! It was the “belt retainer bracket” (I don’t know what the official name is). It has 4 little screws that attach the bracket to the laser carriage and all of them were extremely loose. I cannot believe how that affected the way the laser would track.
See pictures. The Test Pattern on the left is what my laser was doing before tightening the 4 screws? Crazy right? The pattern on the right was made after tightening. I am super happy now.
