Falcon 2 pro 22w connection and starting problems

Warning - long read.

Hi, I am a laser newbie. I have the Creality Falcon2 Pro 22w. Sadly I can’t consistently get my laptop and laser to communicate and when they do, it still won’t start. I am running windows 11 and Lightburn.

Here’s what I have tried.

Order of switch on – turn on laser, plug in usb A to C to both laser and laptop, open lightburn.

  1. I have 2 Different USB A-C leads (no usb hubs). One that came with the laser and one I have just bought, a brand new high quality data lead. I have 2 USB sockets on my laptop. I have tried both leads and both ports in various combinations. My PC has found the laser on both usb laptop sockets with both cables, but not always. In my device manager it shows I have 4 ports, labelled as Standard Serial over Bluetooth link Com 3,4,5 &6 and when I plug in the laser it comes up as a USB port at the bottom of that list, it doesn’t show the actual laser though, nor does it call it CH340.

  2. So, I tried to install the CH340 driver, but when I downloaded it and tried to uninstall it, to get a clean install, I got the message that it wasn’t on my laptop. So, I tried to install it and got the message that it was already preinstalled!?! Yet still it doesn’t show up as CH340 – should it? I have seen that it does on various videos.

  3. I couldn’t get lightburn to find my laser either. I dropped in the lightburn lbdev file, but it still doesn’t find the laser even on the odd occasion that the laptop has found it. I did manually add it as a device in lightburn. (Incidentally when the pc does recognise that I have plugged in the laser, it puts it on a port not previously listed and calls it USB com 6, in addition to the other com 6 port.

  4. I have earthed the laser and made sure my laptop is not by the laser power source.

  5. I did manage to get lightburn to talk to the laser once or twice and managed to frame out a design, but then I got error 3, when I pressed start, saying “Reset while in motion" or communication error, or its been interrupted”. (It does home ok though) Another occasion I get a message saying that the laser is paused or busy. I have rebooted everything numerous times and even re flashed the software on the laser.

I’ve searched this forum, the lightburn forum and you tube without success.

I can’t find anything else to try so I’m ready to throw it out of the window! Thanks for any help you can offer.

Usually it’s a mechanical connection issue. Is plug kind of loose when it’s in the USB-C socket?
While theoretically there are other things that could cause a USB device to drop the connection, like EMI, that is quite uncommon. I don’t think you need to install drivers for it on a modern operating system. The Falcon 2 Pro worked out of the box for me.

Thanks, as I said, I’ve tried 2 diff leads and 2 diff sockets on my laptop.
