As stated above I have the falcon 40 watt and rotary pro, when I am trying to do a coffee mug with a handle it does ok on one side but then on the other side it is like the rotary stepper motor does not have enough power to rotate the mug and the design gets messed up. Can a stepper motor have a “dead spot”? Is the handle to heavy for the rotary to turn it?
Hello Wolf-Tracks,
I don’t have an engraver so this is simply a guess…
Is it possible that the handle is touching the bed at some point of the rotation ?
Can you watch it working ?
Cheers.
Thanks for the reply, no, the handle is not hitting anything. In fact now the rotary is not spinning a non-handled tumbler at certain times. Creality has been less than helpful, we keep playing email tag…
I thought there were no moving parts in a stepper motor other than the armature, but obviously there is something amiss… may just have to spend the coin and buy another rotary?
Hello Wolf-Tracks,
It does seem like a problem with the rotary unit.
Is it possible to un-plug it and check the connections, then plug it in again ?
Just a thought.
Cheers.
So I found the problem. The chuck set screws were loose on the motor shaft, also one of the machine screws that holds the chuck together was loose. Now I have two rotarys one I will turn the chuck outboard to allow for engraving handled mugs. Kinda bummed that no one on here except you even offered ideas…
Thank you for posting your solution.
I found that I had a lot of slack in the rotary and finding your solution has fixed my problem.
Cheers
