Falcon2 Framing Function Stopped Working

I’ve had my Falcon2 22W for a couple of weeks now and, until yesterday, everything seemed to work fine. Yesterday I set up the Rotary Roller for the first time and after a bit of a grind (a bunch of Google/ YouTube searches) I got that working. All good.

However, today I have disconnected the roller and set it back for flat working and I can’t get it working. I believe that I have undone all the I changes made setting up for rotary work but it is always possible that I have missed something. I’m hoping you folks can get to the bottom of it.

All cables have been checked and all good. Now, when I turn on the power (before connecting to Lightburn), it does not auto-home but when I press the HOME button on the carriage it does home to bottom left. When I then connect to Lightburn, it does auto-home (auto-home on startup is enabled). But when I load a project and try to frame an object, there is no movement and I get the following error message:

ALARM:2

G-code motion target exceeds machine travel. Machine position safely retained. Alarm may be unlocked. (Right-click the ‘Devices’ button to reset the connection)

When I right-click the ‘Devices’ button to reset, I get the following fail message:

Waiting for connection…

Port failed to open - already in use?

At that point, I’m trying to connect to the same port that it was using and none of the other ports offered work either so the only way I’ve found to reconnect is to power off and back on. In the log below, when I then tried to jog the laser right I got no movement and the same error message.

In case it is relevant, I should admit that when I first tried to change back to flat setup, when I first I tried to frame, the rail did move but the head kept going and was hitting the limit (far-right) but just kept trying to go right. I had to hit the emergency stop. At that point I realised I had not ‘Disabled Rotary’ in the settings.

Also, I have just realised that while I have been typing this, the air has just kept going instead of going into standby (it was set for 15s which was working previously).

Here’s the whole log for the session described above:

I’m stumped but I hope one of you can spot something in the log. If there is any other information that would help trouble-shoot, please advise.

Thanks

I am still no further forward. Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

Hardware:
Tried to run the laser from the TF card without Lightburn. The carriage still doesn’t auto-home on startup but does when HOME is pressed, The light goes blue when the FRAME button is pressed but the JOG and HOME keys do not work in framing mode. I did not press RUN tbh, didn’t see the point.

Software:
Uninstalled/ reinstalled Lightburn - no change, getting the same errors as originally posted. However, I note that when I reinstalled, I didn’t need to put my license in again or anything and all my settings were retained so, if this is a setting issue i.e. something I set, it’ll still be there, I guess?

Firmware:
I went through the original set up process and redownloaded the latest firmware (same file tbh) and reinstalled both (master and laser). No change.

Is this a hardware or software problem? Really not sure how I troubleshoot this?

Where do I go from here folks?

Thanks

Good news, folks.

I continued to search for any posts which could relate to my issue and found a post from OrturTech which referenced a ‘reset to default settings’ command i.e. $RST=* and what do you know, it worked. The carriage is now homing and framing as it should and I can fire up and run again. :star_struck:

Thanks Gil :+1:

The only downside for me now is that, in the process of resolving this issue, I have discovered that the carriage is squint i.e. not running parallel to the frame. The frame is square but the carriage is off by about 4.5mm on the far right side. This appears to be a common problem and hopefully not a difficult fix.

As always, any tips would be welcomed
