Is it possible to move filament run out sensor closer to head? It would make it much easier to switch filaments for multicolor printing
In theory, you should be able to move the filament run out sensor anywhere. You may have to extend the cable as it looks fairly short.
I’d had some issues with the filament just “sticking” in the bowden tube so I removed it entirely and now just have the spool hanging above the printer. It will need a custom cable extention soldered in, but I plan to find a way to mount that runout up there somewhere.
It’s actually been pretty useful; runout on my other printers sucked to the point of being useless, rarely resumed clean without a layer shift. On my Max it actually resumes so well, so reliably, I’ve been using the runout sensor just as a lazy way to use up the ends of spools on little garbage prints. Because joining filament together by hand sucks.
How did you placed the spool holder on the top of the printer?
In my case I have a conveniently placed joist right above the printer. I just used one of those screw in garage hooks. Had one that was long and flat, maybe for a bike or something. Just stripped the rubber off it so it’s just bare metal to reduce friction.
It’s worked for now until I can build something less hack.
