FR0122: Spool holder filament in use error

I recently had a series of errors popping up, which likely started when the feeding tube would disconnect from the heating element/extruder assembly mid print.

I think I have all but one of them sorted but am being blocked by the last one:

FR0122: Spool holder filament in use

I have never used the spool holder and only the CFS so I don’t know where this error is coming from.

The following steps have been taken:
1: Turning Printer on/off
2: Disconnected and reconnected the CFS
3: Manually checked all the feeding tubs for broken filament
4. Replaced the Filament Break Detection chip.

Why is it still detecting the Spool Holder with filament?

when you get this error mid print, does the CFS show as still connected in the filament menu ? or only the spool holder.
i.e is the K2 loosing connection for the CFS mid print ? i.e a cable connection issue through vibration.

if its not you might be suffering from a problem with filament detection
try the steps in FR0122 | Creality Wiki

if its not anything in above, check if you’re encountering the scenario I had with the detector spring, details here:

My CFS is showing still connected to the printer. The filament menu both on the printer and in the app for the spool holder shows no filament.

I have gone through all the steps listed in the FR0122 General Trouble shooting including replacing the filament detection board.

Am I going to also order and replace the Hot End Circuit Board?

I have had the printer for less than 60 days…

Are you are not getting the side spool showing up in the phone app ?
It should look like this (for a single cfs)

If you’re not even getting this while idle..then maybe you haven’t bound the device to your account.
You should be able to remotely extrude / retract from the side spool, from the phone app.
Even change the filament type/settings via the app

Chris,

The Spool Holder is showing up as empty on the Phone App, Desktop, and the Printer. Having never even installed the Spool Holder onto the printer and never used it I would expect this to be the case.

I have only ever used the CFS.

Ok what your screen shots show is it all working as expected… there is no relationship from the physical side spool to the system, you just have not assigned any filament types to the side spool.

How the K2 operates, is if the external side spool is selected, then the K2 does not feed from the CFS, but only uses the filament detector inside the extruder to detect if there is filament or not.

So when its saying side spool detected, without any filament loaded from the CFS, this means the extruder is detecting filament, either broken off, or something is activating the filament detection spring… this is located withing the extruder, as part of the extruder front cover you remove to clear jams.

My guess is one of 4 problems…

  1. Broken filament / jam
  2. your extruder front cover bowen connector is failing and the ptfe tube is triggering the “filament is loaded”
  3. The filament detection circuit board inside the extruder front cover is faulty
  4. You have suffered a front cover extruder spring issue (whice ive documented on this forum)
