Hotend getting 24V but not heating

Hello all,

Per title, my K2 plus stock hotend is getting 24V measured with a multimeter on the two pads that connect the heat wires to the ceramic sleeve. There is, however, no heat being generated. The nozzle stays cold to the touch and the displayed temperature from the thermistor stays where it is.

Odd issue, the back story is that I had a print fail and huge blob of filament on the first hotend after quite a bit of successful printing. I replaced the hotend and soon began getting system errors asking to reboot the machine. These transitioned into hotend not working properly errors. I pulled out the current hotend to find a large chip in the ceramic sleeve that heats the brass portion that accepts the nozzle. The sleeve also freely rotated around the brass. I swapped back to the first hotend and that’s where I’m at: it’s getting 24V but not heating anything. I ordered a another hotend but it will be a few days so I figured I’d try to troubleshoot this one. At least it’s not the cable or main board……..I hope!

Thanks for reading

Hello there, the heater got damaged, replace it. it is a consumable.

consumable should mean that it works for an expected life cycle. The second hotend died after a few hours of printing, but I think you are right, I just had bad luck with the replacement hotend. It was bought from the smile store so it very well have been someone else’s return.
