How Do You Build a Reliable Knee System for Armor? (MK39 Iron Man Project)

Hey everyone! I’m new to the Creality Forum and wanted to start a discussion about something I’m trying to improve on my Iron Man MK39 suit build — a good, reliable knee system.

I’m having trouble with the usual issues that come with wearable armor:

  • subducting (parts sliding under each other)

  • misalignment when bending

  • locking or jamming

  • the knee drifting sideways instead of staying centered

I’m looking for ideas, examples, or techniques that other makers use to keep the knee moving smoothly and consistently.

Right now I’m experimenting with a “floating knee” setup using internal blocks and tension, but I’m considering adding guide rails or a track system inside the thigh and shin to keep the knee cup centered during movement. Has anyone tried something like that?

I’d love to hear how you solved knee alignment in your own builds — whether it’s Iron Man suits, cosplay armor, exosuits, or anything with moving leg parts. Tips, photos, or even rough sketches would be super helpful.

Thanks in advance! Excited to learn from the community.
