Some may know me from the Ender 3 subredit under my same user name. I’m in the process of designing an absolute minimalist 5015 fan duct that keeps mass as close to the X-rail and keeps airflow around the hotend cooling fins as unrestricted as possible.
I’m doing this to keep ringing to a minimum while maintaining maximum cooling capacity, you’ll hopefully notice that on top of removing bias for the X direction, I designed this for a similar and equal cooling in both of the Y-directions. This is achieved by making the duct nozzles diagonal. This duct is based on the Prusa XL fan duct.
Rather than a shroud I’m mounting this duct on a skeleton with some limited range for vertical adjustments. This duct is designed for the length of the stock hotend, although it will be easy to adjust the design for any length. Designing around diagonal nozzles also allowed me to keep the distance towards either nozzle fairly even when compared to the Satsana duct, for instance. The fan itself also sits higher above the bed and slightly over the rail. I checked for clearance with common Bowden and BMG direct drive mounts, but not for a Sherpa mini setup. I imagine it may interfere with the button on the right side.
I just wanted to share this in case someone may have some useful insights in this, wants to contribute to this make or simply wants to stay in the loop. I’m printing a prototype currently and can share an Onshape link or step files if desired.
I hope this message is OK with the mods, I believe this is a unique fan duct in the sense that it has a general design philosophy that’s vastly different from all of the most common solutions that I’ve seen for the Ender 3. Thanks in advance for any helpful comments.
