Is my K2 Plus the only one that prints horrible ovals instead of round holes in the XZ and YZ planes?

Title says it all. The only circles that look good are on the Horizontal plane, any holes on the side walls turn out as ugly oval shape, squashed vertically. I’ve tried several things:

  • changed layer height to very low 0.08 - no improvement
  • slowed down to 60 - 100mm/sec - no improvement
  • used variable layer heights near the holes to get finer layer resolution - no improvement

Does it have anything to do with maybe the X,Y,Z axes not correctly configured for steps/mm or something similar to that? It’s impossible to print parts that will fit together when circular holes are not circular.

Can anyone post some pictures from their K2 Plus that have nice circular holes on the sides of the print, I’d like to see that it can be done.

I attached pix of what I’m seeing on my K2 Plus.

I don’t have any pictures handy to post, but I can tell you I have had this problem before and it came down to support settings. It can be really fiddley to get supports out of holes, but that is what I needed to get them round.

There are lots of things that will affect hole roundness on the sides. I see some other things on these prints that suggests you could use a bit of calibration too. When I say “it came down to supports”, that was after printer calibration and after tightening up the settings for print head and filament type. The stock default settings are just ball park figures to get you started. They need to be tweaked for every filament brand and type. Every print head size and type needs its parameters tightened up too if you want to do precision printing.

The machine and print head calibrations will address all the X, Y, & Z issues. The calibrations are tedious and time consuming, but they don’t have to be done very often.

It also looks like this filament is coming out too fast or too hot (or any combination of the other filament parameters that affect overhang) A tightening up of the profile for the filament you are using would be in order too.

Thanks for the tips.
