K1 max - hot end screws and electric connectors glued

One of the prints went wrong and the PLA covered the entire hot end all the way up to the heat sink.
I was unable to remove the PLA around the hot end without damaging the thermistor, Went on to replace the hot end with the spare provided with the unit.
The 2 vertical screws that hold the hot end will not come lose, i followed the tutorial from wiki.creality.com, image below.

I went on to remove the whole heatsink to het better access to the screws on the hot end. However, the controler board has all the electrical connectors filled with some elastic yellow glue that is much stronger than the cables or the platic sockets. I eventually reached the screws that hold the heat sink, image below. These are also glued in place and they will not turn. There are no issues with heat expansion, I waited a day and tried again.

I contacted cutomer support by email as the unit is under warranty, there is no reply which is disapointing.

Has anyone encountered this situation or have any suggestions? Has anyone tried to repair products under warranty

I have a K1 and none of the screws for the hotend are glued in. The electrical connectors are a pain, may need a scalpel to cut away some of the glue to disconnect them without damage. I think there is a 7 day holiday in progress in China

Thanks for the reply.

I managed to remove the electrical connectors eventually. They were dosed in glue.
The 2 vertical screws holding the hot end won’t bulge though. I can’t tell if they are glued, I might have wrongly assumed this. In any case, the very small allen key grips, but if i twist any harder it will slip damaging the screw head.
I am considering using a dremel to cut the hot end off screws off. The stucked screws are very ling so i should be able to twist them out. It’s just that a simple half an hour job turned into a head ache and an unusable printer.

They make screw extractors that should help remove those long ones. On my ender 3 V3 I heated up a small pick to get the filament out of that hex head so I could get the 1.5mm wrench in it

Same for me a K1/Max pruchased a the begining of 2024, all the elec connector glued with yellow/brown glue… realy strong glue stronger than wire fixation nor plastic connector… i have destroyed one of connector on the small PCB board by removing the cable of the nozle heater and the cable of the stepper… i have a purchased a new PCB board, no time to wait support process then part supply from the other side of the world … even the cable of the small fan behind the board is glued… I dont understand why they have glued connectors that need to be disconnected for basic maintenance work… frustrating… a 15 minutes maintenance take days and cost…

I got the connectors to come away and have re-connected a new hot end. Should I glue the new ones in place? Will the movement of the hotend eventually cause them to disconnect? What glue do you recommend?

I made some replacements on some K1 Max hot end parts with connectors and didn’t use glue. Haven’t moved yet…

I think as they are press fitted and hopefully shouldn’t move. :crossed_fingers:

It would be a hassle to go through scraping glue off again in the event I need to update or replace something else…
