K1C not extruding on second day having it

If you can’t even print pre-processed G-code from the USB drive, I suggest the following.

Do a factory reset.
Do a complete calibration of the printer.
From the setup menu “gear icon” do the self check.
Since you seem to be having issues with the nozzle heating, under the “Expert settings”, do the nozzle check.

Hey Jrag, Hope all is well. Im sorry to hear that things didnt work out. I def understand your frustration so as you suggested we can definetly work together to try to isolate the potential variables. One variable that you mentioned was the Filament and your process

I threaded the filament through the tube and into the extruder before running the dry cycle, so does that mean that the 24 or so inches of filament sitting in the tube and not in the drier may still pose a problem?

Yes. That 24+ inches of filament didnt get dried like the other half of the filament did Its important that when you do use a filament drier that you dry the entire spool of filament before usage and definetly before running it through it through the extrusion tube. If you haven’t already I would recommend doing one thing for right now : read this message all the way through

You also asked :

how should I go about initial setup (specific details would be great) . . .if I thread it after the dry cycle, would the moisture of my skin and fingers pose a risk? should I wear rubber gloves?

This is more of a personal preference and based on the filament. If you are dealing with a highly hygroscopic filament like Nylon, PVA, or TPU, while its likely not really necessary per se, it’d be useful but overkill and considering you are dealing with PLA it really isn’t a needed step unless you feel as if you need too, or you sweat enough to make Aquaman’s powers look even more lame. Heres the steps :

  1. First, ensure the filament is dried properly inside the filament drier. You might want to let it sit longer (6+ hours, depending on the material) if you can afford the time.
  2. Once it’s done drying, then thread it into the extruder. This ensures that any moisture in the filament is removed and doesn’t get pushed into your extruder and nozzle.
  3. It’s not necessary to wear gloves, but your fingers can introduce moisture to the filament. The good news is that filament can be relatively resilient to minor handling, so light skin contact won’t have a major impact.

In the event that you can’t print the benchy and want to do a full reset on your K1C you will goto the printer itself and on the screen goto System > Settings > Reset Configuration.

Make sure everything is selected and this will Factory reset the K1C back to its OG settings. To be honest with you Jrag im beginning to doubt the issue is with the filament, and It could possibly be with the printer and possibly your settings. PLA isnt that moisture sensitive and if it is wet it should still print. You mentioned in a previous post that you recently moved so along side resetting the entire printer I highly recommend that you look over your machine for any cable breaks, irregular rod streaking, etc. If you need to contact Creality the best way that I have found is via the online chat on the creality website. Creality is piss poor in answering emails and i cant imagine having them on the phone would be any better.

Dammit man . . . I dont really know what else I can do here, Ive tried to do everything . . .Do a factory reset. Do a complete calibration of the printer. the nozzle check. was able to successfully extrude a test of filament but then not even a minute into the simple test print of the boat…it stopped extruding.

Im pretty much at a loss and my frustration is slowly transitioning to anger. The only other thing I can think to do is to once more…after all the calibrations and stuff…disassemble the extruder once more to clear any issues but I strongly doubt that is the prob. What the hell else am I missing here! Do I need to go so far as to begin ranting about how I should have went with Bambu Labs???

Jrag, can you do me a favor can you post a picture of the failed benchy for me? If i can see the benchy I can take it to some people in some hackerspaces IK IRL and maybe get more info cause im ngl you and me both are getting pissed at this printer. Never wanted to buy a plane ticket to smash something in my life lol.

Hope this is helpful, but the damn thing quits extruding after 45 seconds of printing, are we the only morons here or is something seriously wrong…Smashing crossed my mind but Im on my way to detonation techniques! Anyone ever see what 50lbs of tannerite and a high velocity rifle can do to a 30" diameter tree trunk? Bet it would vaporize this POS

So just to make sure I have the full story : It begins the benchy printing process begins making the first few layers, then it will suddenly just stop extruding filament while its stopping the extrusion it will still continue to run as if its extruding filament?

If that’s correct then the likely issue is Heat creep. After talking with others and doing some research the only other issue I can imagine is heat creep and if that’s the case you will have to either replace the hot end or use your warranty. You said you bought it near christmas so you still are within the 1 Year Warranty and because this is an operational error it should be covered.

And nah I assure you that every printer will have an issue like this. From Bambu to QiDi every printer is susceptible to this issue, and im gonna be honest with you the K1C is pretty good for the price compared to the Bambu equivalent

The bed looks like it could do with some IPA.

Thanks a lot, you nailed it precisely…to be clear the hot end is not the same as simply replacing the tip, correct? I will do some additional research either way but if I am able to just swap for a different tip that would be ideal…I really dont want to have to go through some warranty BS, disassemble, package, ship, wait, wait, wait ,wait…reassemble! @Radical_Data . . .you’re right…I’ve been going through so much trial and error that basic maintenance of the plate cleanliness goes out the window!

Does anyone know what the best way to go about contacting the customer service dept is if I need to have the hot end replaced? will they want to replace the whole print head or some part of it?
