I’m using PLA on my K1C with Orca slicer. I enable multimaterial and turn on the purge tower, and add a color change.
My problem is this: when printing reaches the color change, there is a retraction of about 20mm. However, the “retract on filament change” for the machine defaults to 1mm, and I’ve tried setting it to 0, but this happens iff I have the purge tower enabled under multimaterial.
This is a problem because this slicer-inserted retraction frequently (more than 50% of the time) causes a jam in the extruder which can only be fixed by taking the extruder apart (takes only a few minutes but cannot be done in the default park position).
If I disable the purge tower there is no retraction, and once the printer is paused I can use Retract from the control panel on the printer to take the old filament out. The CP Retract does a bit of extrude first then immediately retracts, and this prevents jamming (presumably because of some quirk of the way the extruder was designed).
The only problem with this approach is that there will sometimes be a bit of extra filament dangling somewhere when it starts the new color. I’d prefer to have the purge tower but I don’t see where to disable this big retraction.
Has anyone gotten purge towers to work reliably in Orca without this extra retract?
