K1C Rear Fan Noise

Today, while printing on my new K1C, the rear fan began screeching line a banshee for about five seconds, then stopped rotating. I’ve heard this sound many times on cheap CPU fans, so I decided to lubricate the bearing.

When the print job was done, I removed the four screws holding the fan and grille. Using an X-Acto knife, i peeled back the label over the rear bearing, and put a drop of light machine oil (e.g., 3-in-1 brand) on the shaft and bearing. See the photo.

(If the noise repeats, I’ll do a full tear-down to release the shaft so I can pull it out to lubricate the other bearing.)

While I had the fan off, I noticed a piece of black debris (see other photo). I don’t know if this was from the factory or my recent printing with black PLA, but I removed it. I think I’ll add a square of window screen over the wire grille to stop any future debris.
