K1Max - Help with exploded hotend

We seem to have had a jam, and it overflowed and exploded around the hotend.

Wife thinks we just need to buy a whole new main print head, replace everything. We’re not exactly in a financial position to do that, but she feels bad as she was printing board game inserts for a friend and noticed a bad smell, but not that anything was wrong.

I’ve spent the last hour carefully chipping away to get the rubber sleeve off so I could see inside, and then gave up as I don’t want to risk damaging any cables or those copper wires. I think my best bet is buy a heat gun and try to melt the filament off?

Please suggest what to do.

You can use a soldering iron to get the plastic off if you don’t have a hotair gun. Heat up the hotend so its 20°C more than needed and use that to get the plastic off. Once you can get to hex nut you should be able to unscrew the nozzle to push out any remaining filament. You might need a new nozzle. You will only need a new hotend if you break the wires. The nozzle leaked probably because the nozzle was loose, should be tightened to 1.8/2.0Nm when it is all hot to get the correct seal. Not unheard of for nozzles just to come loose.
