Hi, I have a K2 PRO CFS for about a month now and so far all is good, the printing is excellent once it gets going and it’s a well built machine.
My problem is I cannot connect to it via ethernet. It’s connected to my Virgin Media router with a cable and then to the PC with another cable from the router. Ill list what I know from the printer screen:-
IP Address fe80::9066:9bff
Gateway fe82:4d83
Subnet Mask Blank
DNS Server Blank
Are these details IP6 addresses?
It says its connected but its not listed as a connected device in the router
I want to connect via ethernet because the printer is too far away to connect nearly all of the time to 2.4Ghz WIFI without extra hardware even if that’s possible.
Would someone please explain how to do this. Some help please.
Most of my networking was in IPv4 space. anyone with more experience in IPv6 please jump in. There is a lot of strangeness there. Yes, you should have a DNS. Subnet mask is more of a router setting. The Gateway and IP address are in the right format, but awfully short and the :: in the middle of an address seems odd to me.
If I had to guess (and that is all I’m doing at the moment) I’d say the Virgin Media router didn’t hand out a complete DHCP. First be sure the Printer is receiving it’s configuration through DHCP (not a manual set-up). The printer will say it has a connection, even if it is not configured. The “connection” is just an indicator that there is data, but not any indication of whether the data is useful or not.
The easy check to see if the printer is getting configured by the router (DHCP configuration) is to leave the router running for a few minutes at least, then power cycle the printer. Do the numbers change? If not, try unplugging the ethernet cable and power cycling the printer. That las trick won’t fix anything but if the numbers are the same, you know the router is not talking to the printer.
If the router is not talking to the printer, check cables and connections. Some network ports have error indicator lights. Look for those too.
Let us know what you find and we’ll take it from there.
Hi Gozmon, The saga continues. For most of today i’ve been trying to get a connection via my setup here without success.
I tried all of your tips but no joy. My setup here is as follows:-
PC connected to an 8 way switch for all the workshop equipment, switch connected to the Virgin router and then out to the printer in the garage all via ethernet. This comes up with that wierd IP6? address and no details of connection on the Virgin router. Ive tried all of the settings that I know and have had success with in the past but no go.
To check if the printer ethernet connection was working I tried a direct laptop connection, this was ok as far as a connection was concerned but no connection to Creality Print, on to the next experiment.
I did succeed in the end by using an old BT router in the garage with a laptop connected by cable to the router and the printer connected via WIFI to the router and it all connected and worked with an IP4 address a gateway and a DNS for the printer
My conclusion is that my Virgin router is not configuring DHCP correctly as you said, I will leave it at that for now and just use a USB key for file transfer.
Many thanks for your reply with this, if I can be bothered in the future to try again and I will let you know what happens.
A couple of things stand out. The addresses you listed are IPv6 link-local values (they always start with fe80). Those aren’t routable and they don’t indicate real connectivity. Many home routers expose IPv6 in limited or broken ways, and embedded devices like the K2 don’t rely on IPv6 for anything.
What matters is that your printer never received an IPv4 address from DHCP. That’s why the router doesn’t show it as a connected device.
Start with the simplest test: turn off WiFi on the printer, power it down, connect the Ethernet cable, and power it back up. With WiFi disabled, the Ethernet interface should request a normal IPv4 address from the router. If it doesn’t, the issue is on the router side or the cable. Both are fairly easy to troubleshoot.
Hello, my K2 Pro is working fine through Ethernet, but I have it connected to a switch, not directly to the router . You should check if the printer’s IP address is compatible with the router’s IP . I had to change the computers IP for a small receipts printer to be recognized.
Hello to all, Im pleased to say that the problem I had has now resolved. Im embarrassed to report that after a process of elimination it turned out to be a faulty cable between the Virgin router and the K2. It was fooling me by indicating that sometimes it was connected and most of the time it was not, three days wasted of the short number of days I have left, (79 years).
Many thanks to all and best wishes for a good Christmas.
